I had a discussion about growing 3 marijuanna plants in my garage with my dad. He isn't too keen on it. He is worried about a couple things. The first one is the legal issue, so I would like to know the punishment in Canada for growing. The second thing is that he beleives that helicopters can detect marijuanna plants growing indoors with ease, I searched around for this but I found no info other than using infrared cameras to detect the lights being used. I don't think this is true, but I might be wrong. thanks

They used to use infared cameras in the US to search for pot being grown indoors, but the law now says that they need a search warrant. I'd imagine the penalties for growing pot in Canadia are a lot more lax than those of the US.

With three plants they're not going to see shit from outside the house with IR.
Your main concern would be smell, and loose lips.
Build a carbon filter, and don't tell anybody.

I heard from a trustworthy source that they will seize the grow equipment and leave you be.So make a portable closet. There main concern is with you stealing the electricity. When you start to grow you need to use less electricity in your house so the electric bill dosent go up this is a indication that you grow pot. Loose lips sink ships.

I think that would depend entirely on where you live.

I think if you stay under 1000 watts they will never know and you won't have to worry about spinning the meter. With 800 watss you could put a 400 watt MH in the 24/7 area and a 400 watt HPS in your 12/12 and you're set.

oddly, canada just made use of infrared detectors illegal without a search warrant:

what is odd is that the us did this before canada. these days, it's usually the other way around.

your location is also important....if ur in the middle of the GTA or somethin then i would consider smell your worst problem...if u live farther out (best case ancaster or any prarrie province) then smell shouldn't be that big a problem because there's so much space between u and your neighboors...
just watch out who u let into ur house and who u tell about ur grow (better if u told absolutly no one) and yes...build a filter.

It isn't that we are scared. He was just worried about those 2 things and once I showed him this, he was alright with it

Basically, in Canada, any charge that is related to marijuana, be it possession, production, trafficking, selling, etc. has a maximum sentance of 7 years prison.

You would probably just get probation for it. If even.

With three plants you could get by with a 150 watt HPS. The light bulb in my room, and my computer use that much.
400w would be a nice setup for 3 plants.

I think that around here anything less than like 40 plants is nothing of interest to them. Three plants wouldn't be woth their time (it costs money to get things done).
The problem is that your garage is not your home and therefore it is not an invasion of privacy for the police to snoop around.

no kidding! that's some rubbish. in short, if it is a closed box and sits on your property, the police need a search warrant to look into it.

I do believe even in our US that property is property and a lock is a lock that can not be opened without a search warrant .

Even if its a different building, it is still a structure on property "owned" by you. Police cannot just go search your business warehouse without a search warrent, even if it is a different building on a different peice of property than your house. Even if you don't own the propery, say if you rent, they still need a warrent.
