I also noticed that RR, in his vids, recommends leaving the weight off until steam has been coming out for 5 - 10 minutes, then dropping the weight on.
I will try the way you have posted in the link, thanks.
I have also been letting the PC exhaust before I put the weight on.

By snug, I mean the point right where the nut touches the lid. I get all the nuts to this point with the lid leveled, then tighten opposing nuts maybe a 1/32 of a turn. (This is what I meant by lightly tightening.) I do this all the way around a few times until the nuts are about 1/3 of a turn past the snug point I just mentioned. At this time I can feel that I would have to start using some force to turn them.
That's not tight enough. Start over and make them tighter. I have to be careful giving advice because some guys don't know their own strength and will get them so tight, the wingnuts break trying to loosen them. We've even had members put pliers on the wingnuts to get them tighter, and they end up destroying a good unit. RR

Why in the hell would you put a pair of pliers on an All American? That is nuts!
That should go down as a classic bad decision for sure,
I would be very upset with myself for that one.....
I admit though the first couple times that those lids go on they don't quite sit in the grooves the same as after a couple dozen runs.....
After being run that many times the lid starts to just sag down into the right place.
You want it tightened down firmly but not so much so that you will strip the wingnuts....
Those would be a real pain in the ass if you were to fuck up the theads....
Could you even tap those little pins out to replace them? I'm pretty sure you'd have to send that thing out if that happened.

Thanks RR and PP (lol). It could be that I didn't make them tight enough. I'll try making them tighter and use the method that Phortre55 has posted in the link.

So it turns out I was not screwing the lid down tight enough. I tightened the lid quite a bit more than I was before and it worked great. It reached 15 psi with just a small bit of steam leaking from only one area. It cooled off and the wingnuts loosened fine and the lid popped right off. I was being way too gentle with it...
Looks like this whole problem was just user error (surprise surpsrise).
Thanks to all who helped. Now I can finally get to work.
