Not sure about species in Aus that are bioluminescent, or how difficult they would be to cultivate.  They are pretty rad though I have to say.

Omphalotus nidiformis is fairly widespread.

Does anyone know if any glow in the dark mushrooms grow in south australia? I want to cultivate some at home and make a pathway kinda thing out of glowing mushrooms:cool:

I can send you an Omphalotus nidiformis and Panellus stipticus culture if you like. It might take me a couple of weeks though.

Wow they look awesome. I had no idea mushrooms could glow like that. If they grow in south oz I'll be out on the hunt for some of those.

I've got a feeling the subs are already among us in the wetter/colder places. Will have to venture out for a look in some of the early season spots:smile:

Hello Thread.

Popped up from a hanging pot-plant in my kitchen.

I got shit-loads of these growing all over my back yard. This isn't a proper ID request, but does anyone care to speculate what they are?

Pot plant mushies are Leucocoprinus birnbaumii

The second lot are Agaricus and could be edible after doing a couple of tests like:

What does it smell like? Pleasant/almondy like a store bought button mushroom? Or chemically like chlorine or unpleasant?

When you cut the stem or scratch the cap with your nail, does it stain? If so, what colour and how fast?

I went for my first actual hunt just recently after that last patch of rain we had a week or two ago. Saw many cortinarius in my usual patches growing in large clusters.
It was a big disappointment every time though!

I'd say judging from the the inactives popping up it wont be long until the season is upon us!

Who will get the first finds of 2011?!

I went out to spot tonight, didn't really have a look just popped in with a mate to have a quick bong or two while we were in the hills.. Still way too dry i reckon.. I want to check a spot down south soon, First spot last year that had mushrooms was this one.. And they were even dry lol.. It's heaps dodgy though, Need to go through the back of a fire station near sa water property...

I can't really be bothered wasting all this fuel on picking early, $1.50 a litre with a commie that guzzles fuel... Costing too much to go out and check..

^^^I know the feeling I had to scrape some petty money together to go out the other week, it's worth it though even if I don't find anything active. I love being out in the forest.

waiting on this cold weather so I can get out again!

Herw some shots from the weekends hunting. Plenty of amanitas around, whole fields of them infact. and one of my favorite mushrooms to look at. picked a few of what im hoping are gym's that could be possibly be active, but ill start a new thread for id when they finish spore printing. was a bit dry out there but still a lot of fun and ran into another hunter in the forest who was collecting some edibles. enjoy the pics.

Nice pics TripNinja :super:

The gyms are Gymnopilus junonius. They're not known to be active in Australia, but there would be no harm in trying them (apart from the bitter taste).

glad to see all the old SA hunters coming out the woodwork.

I only started to really learn about hunting mushrooms at the end of last season, and apart from a few small finds I didnt have any really big hunts or finds.
Like lucas said I have learned alot about mushrooms in general over the last year so this season will be my first real one and hopefully its alot of fun!

might cross paths with some of you in the forest :mushroom2:
