Okay so I have some flat polyfill, instead of it being fluffy its one flat layer used for blanket stuffing. would this work maybe better for covering monotub holes anstead of stuffing the holes with fluffy polyfill would covering up the holes with a layer or 2 of the flat stuff work? any comments or opinions welcome.

Monotubs work even better without any poly in the holes.

What if you're in a really dry climate? Just have to mist a hell of a lot more?

I dunno. I never did get monotubs to work with anything in the holes, that's how I ended up doing hybrid MSG tubs.

should you still be misting and fanning with a monotub?

I've never heard it suggested to leave the polyfill out.
I think biologys and doc need to have a death match to decide this.

Depends on your surrounding humidity.....I had a monotub with 3 holes without polyfill....unless I misted it 10 times a day it dried the hell out.......But I agree, the MSG's seems to work much better for me

I'll let RR argue my side of it.
If it's too dry where you are you might try a humidity tent, just a greenhouse with no electronics. light if needed, but the tubs inside are on their own for humdity.

I keep my grow room at 50% rh. Is that sufficient to run a mono with no poly?

as already stated, each enviroment is different..
my humitity outside of my tub's are 25-30%, I can remove polyfil from one hold and it'll hold for a day, then after that it drops
so I lighty stuff all holes, and mist and fan once a day, sometimes twice...and i'm happy with my results that's all that matters to me.

polyfil is cool if your grow area is quite dry.
i dont use polyfil for anything but jar filters.
