Growing king oysters without a PC?

got my hands on a KO culture but i've had zero xp with edibles. cubes are pretty straight forward with the pf-tek. even growing on popcorn/millet seed worked without a PC, just fractal sterilized the jars. how difficult is it? also i haven't touched agar ever so a total first timer. im thinking if i should even try to get started or get something less challenging under my belt first.

King oyster is as easy to grow as oyster, so this is a good one to start with.

Agar is easy. I've never tried to prepare it without a pressure cooker, though, so you may want to look into getting a prepared batch from one of the sponsors. You can just melt it in a hot water bath and pour the plates. You can use classic or supplemented PF cakes for your substrate. Just prepare the jars with tyvek/micropore filters over 6mm holes like you would for grain and leave out the dry vermiculite layer. Then you can just inoculate by dropping in an agar wedge or two.
That's what I did for my pleurotus ostreatus culture trials that I'm running right now. I got a wild spore print from a member here and isolated a whole bunch of cultures that I'm fruiting and comparing to each other.

would i need a glove box for inocculation? the oyster samples are in small test-tube type of vessels.

Yeah definitely. Sterility is very important. I just use a clear plastic tub. I cut two holes for my hands and flip the thing upside down on a sterile, metal surface. You'll want to expand small samples from the tubes onto agar plates then use the plates to start your jars.
You can make an alcohol burning lamp out of any old small glass jar with a metal screw top lid. I used a small jelly jar. Drill a hole in the center of the lid. Fill the jar with 99% isopropyl alcohol (you should be able to find it in the first aid section of a pharmacy) or denatured alcohol from the hardware store. You can make a wick out of cotton balls or a paper towel, but not polyfill. Leave the lamp burning outside your still air box and use for flame sterilizing your metal tools (scalpel, inoculation loop, syringe needles).
Cap the flame with a shot glass when you want to extinguish it.
