First Grow, need help

I am starting to get very impatient, these jars have taken almost 3 weeks and they still aren't done colonizing. NOW one of em just got mold on the substrate in the bottom part that isnt colonized here it is its hard to see, but its green at the bottom
I got 3 other 1/2 pint jars NONE done colonizing either, no mold luckily...heres some pics i took with a shitty camera, sorry

So my question is, can i just birth these and scrape off all the uncolonized substrate and mold and put in my FC and hope for a small yield? Some look about 70-80% colonized so would this work at all?
Should I just trash the one with the mold in it? Thanks in advance

Do not put the contaminated jar in the FC! Just trash it and make sure you boil/clean the jar well. Have the jars been continuously colonizing or stuck at 70-80% for awhile. If it has been stuck for awhile, i would birth what you have because it might never colonize.

will do. Thanks.
I'm guessing the reason why it's taking so long is because the substrate is not the right verm-brf-water ratio... the substrate looks really damp at the bottom where it;s not colonized but you can't see cuz my camera won't focus right . I have 7 more jars about to be inoculated i'll hopefully do it right this time and it wont take so long..
And yes Bass the jars have ben stuck around this point. I'll wait another day or 2 and see if it picks up. If not, I'll just try to birth em....

Also you've got the wrong jars. And I suspect your syringe is contaminated. Sorry.

Nah the jars are smooth on the inside.. theres no lip. And why do you suspect that? How does a syringe get contam'd? or do you mean the needle when i inoculated?

Thanks obey, it turns out the cake was only 10% colonized it really deceives you when you look at the sides. I am such a noob
It's in the trash so thanks for the help everyone i just inoculated 7 more
oh BTW...My FC is already built it's a poor mans pod, i have the pump going and the perlite sitting the tub with a good amount of water. Do i have to worry about contams getting in there while i wait for my jars to colonize? Is there a way to quickly sterilize the FC before i birth them?

You have tall jars, not widemouths. they just don't work as well.
Contents of the syringe may not be sterile. Not the outside of the needle- flame it red hot, the needle is clean.
Also, why the foil? Take that off if there's a dry verm layer in your jars.
...also, which tek are you using? Link please?

np man, Yea its always good to give it about a week to colonize after the sides look colonized. One of those mistakes everybody has made.
Make sure to pc your jars of substrate for at the very least a half hour, i like to leave mine in there for around 45-50 min. I've found that most of my contamination problem came from the substrate not being completely sterile.

what you are doing here is bullshit. if adidas would know...
unsurprisingly that your jars will get mold; you cut every air exchange off.
im suprised that nobody remarked that so far..
is there a lid underneath the foil? in the picture it looks like.
so, remove the foil and put your jars on a shelf in your room and let them colonize there.
would you like to be jailed in a grumpy shoe box?
let them breath.

Wow, i had no idea that the foil was supposed to come off...doesn't the dry verm layer protect the jar from airborne contaminants? What about organisms that crawl around... lol

Ah I see. Thanks!
Higgledy- I appreciate the help! I had some holes in the shoe box but i guess it wasn't suffiecient.
So..... do I expose the dry verm to the air or do i leave the foil with the four holes i inoculated through on? I read that exposing it to the air with no lid at all drys the cakes out... what do you think Doc_T?

you are welcome.
shoe box with enough holes would be ok, on the other hand light is beneficial.
but no foil...

Ok, but keep in mind i don't have lids. Still, take all the foil off and expose the verm to the air?
What about the ones I just inoculated and have not colonized at all yet? Same for them?
