I'm not sure what you're asking exactly... you want to take the speaker out of the combo amp and install it into what cabinet? Are you going to make one? Isn't it technically already installed in a cabinet? Just be like this guy

There's a speaker in an amp? That doesn't make sense. An amp supplies power to a speaker, so can you explain with less brevity, please?

well yeah it's alrady installed in a cab, but there's no "input" section for another amp to run through.Quote:

like i said, it's a combo amp (meaning speaker + amp)
basically what im asking is how hard would it be to buy a cabinet box and install a speaker

It depends on the kind of speaker though, is there baffle and whatnot involved? I would need more details

If your speaker is already mounted in an amp box, leave it in that box.
Take out speaker. Cut out round hole with hole saw into the side of the amp box careful not to hurt any of the electronics inside the amp box. Install speaker box terminal. use silicone to seal up around the new terminal port. Scccrrrew it in place.
Do not remove any electronics out of your old amp, just mount the terminal, connect wires to speaker and back of the new terminal Now use your new amp and run speaker output to the new terminal on the outside of the box.
If you want to put your amp back like it was, just take the speaker back out and put the wires back like you found them.
Does this make sense? This would be easier than building a new speaker box for it.

If I'm getting this right (I'm tripping, who knows if I am), what you're saying is pretty basic. Might have to make a new hole or two for the tubes if they're on the outside, but otherwise should be quite simple

Dude, if you're going to build a new cabinet (which you'll need to put the speaker in, since your tube head won't be big enough to fit it in), why not just buy a new speaker as well? That way you'll keep the combo in working order and you have all possible degrees of freedom in constructing your new cabinet. Might as well go for 4x10 or 4x12 if you're feeling fancy.
Instrument cabinets tend to be extremely simple construction-wise (compared to hi-fi speakers); most are basically a box with part of the backside left out. One tip: don't use MDF. It sucks in basically every way. OSB works a lot better, and any sort of real wood is better still, but unnecessarily expensive for your purposes.
When designing your speaker cabinet, make sure you match the impedance of the amplifier. Your tube head will probably have an impedance selector to choose between e.g. 4, 8 and 16 ohms. Make sure that the driver configuration you design matches with one of those settings. This is particularly important if you plan to use more than one speaker; the impedance of the drivers themselves combined with the way you connect them (in series, in parallel or a combination thereof with 4 drivers or more). If you plan on using one driver (e.g. for a 1x12 or 1x15 cabinet), just buy any old 8ohm driver and be done with it.
Edit: that link Shroomism posted seems to cover all aspects. If you need any help, post back here or shoot me a pm.
