I did that with a friend but with weed. We smoked him at the woods like old times and had a blast with pics of him up and stuff. I imagine some would end up in there with shrooms but it would be kinda weird eatin them over smoking weed.

Dude that's odd IMO. Was your dad an old time hippy or someone who enjoyed psychedelics? I honestly think you should give your pops some rest sorry about your loss regardless.

I'd rather my ashes be turned into something with longevity. The elephant ears is a great idea, a tree would even work. I think you'd enjoy him more knowing he's there and not consumed for a 4 hour trip, not to mention the emotions you'd be taking into that trip might be overwhelming. An outdoor bed with some nice plants and possibly cyanescens or other wood lover would stretch his ashes out further.
You'll do what you feel is right at the time, I'm just offering an outside perspective. I do think it's really nice tho your sister agrees with you, he sounds like he was a cool dude.

how would your dad feel if he knew you were going to mix his remains with a rubbermaid tub full of cow shit?

Yeah, this one has that kind of feel about it.

If someone used my ashes to grow shrooms I wouldn't mind; it's not like I would need them.

I wouldn't mind either. People can flush my ashes as far as I care. So much the better if they're useful to someone.
But I don't think mushroom substrates need extra carbon. It might not hurt.
Still, AFD I think.

Does anyone think its possible that human ashes would have a similiar effect to activated charcoal?

dont worry about what everyone negative says OP.
truth is, those ashes are like activated carbon and should probably be used as such in the sub..
i dont really think its completely all right, but i cant say anything about it because our opinions shouldnt matter. only yours
as far as the trip with them go, keep the sort of mindset that you are doing it to feel close to your dad again and i'm not knocking it. keep some good vibes going and try to remember the good times.
on a lighter note: at the end of the trip your dad will technically be poo'd out of you... its just something to think about.
