Well, I ordered a spore syringe from www.freespores.com a couple days ago, and it already came in the mail! Those guys are FAST! So last night I PC'd a dozen half pint jars of BRF substrate. And now the little lovelies are noc'd and incubating at a comfy 74 degrees.
I just moved into a new house and have yet to get Internet but when I do (next Wednesday probably) I will post pictures.

Spore stores syringes are clear accept for maby 1 or 2 dark prices floating around.. in my opinion sporestore works. As for for the dunk water i have used water from it to inocule a few jars 4 out of 5 did well

Well I have had several experiences with Sporestore syringes that were not bad. I refrain from passing judgement on them, I just figure it is time to try somebody else's services. Sporestore was never bad for me, up until the last batch of spores. Been three weeks with absolutely no growth.
But there are so many different factors involved that it may very well not have been the spores.

I am about to use open office to draw up my closet air temp regulator, if an accurate temp of 75-80 is kept, that is optimum, right? Cause I found out what temp to put my heat on to keep it at 75-76F? Actually I think a closet is the best place as long as it is clean to consolidate, not much air movement and easy to control temperature regulator.(Door),so if it hits 76 you open the door a little and check 10 minutes later, if the temp is still rising then take the heat blowing towards it shut the door and move it to my feet. I always have to check again 10 minutes later to see if the tep has dropped but it wont unless it is super cold or you have gaps and drafts.
I have my heat directed into there and I keep it at 71-72F but the temp drops to 69-70F during the day if the sun is out because my closet is cooler than the rest of my house, I just move the heat vent director I invented and blow the cool air towards me.

69 is perfectly fine, and as long as you dont go over 80 you're fine, but when you go with the higher temps you're also giving contam's the temp's that they love and thrive in...in lower temps contam's hate it, but myc still enjoy...

But the contam has to be present and introduced they don't just appear from no where, if you keep them in a clean closet on a high shelf with the door mostly closed then you could chance the higher temps because all you would have to do is make sure to be clean, wear gloves if handling, oust outside the closet, wear clean hat, don't breath in the closet too much, don't breathe on the jars, you know just take all the precautions and prepare, inoc, and PC correctly and you should be golden on a closet shelf, like a teacher.

even if you have a a sterile jar, just sitting there, not touched, un inoculated, after a month or longer it will end up turning green....even if you have the best filter, best sterile technique...it still happens..

i ment to say a few months.
I actually have 3 jars that's been sitting for 45 days myself, when I was testing my APE LC i left those 3 as test jars, to check my sterile technique, since it had been 6 months since i've grown..
my APE is fruiting now and the jars are still not green
but eventually they will go green..

Mold spores are everywhere, I just figure if you have a clean room with the least airflow in your abode then that is your best bet for colonizing.

Well, I now have my incubator tub sitting at a steady 72 degrees. Took some finagling, ended up elevating the jars about 6 inches above the heating pad and the tub itself is in a room with an ambient temp of around 60. And for the last eight hours the temp at the level the jars are at hasn't budged from 72. So I think I'm ok on temp now. The room my incubator is in has been sterilized (found some handy dandy lysol-type foggers at the local Walgreens. Basically a bug fogger but with lysol inside instead of insecticide.), and has no air flow.
Had some substrate left over from my jars, so the next day I made a couple tupperware style Microwave-Tek containers. Gonna try that tek and see how it works for me. Will keep ya posted.
I finally gave up on the containers with spores from Sporestore. Been WAY too long with no growth. So I shoved them up on a shelf and am gonna forget about them for a bit. Perhaps I will be pleasantly surprised with at least SOME degree of colonization at a later date. But I kinda doubt it.

Well, here's some pics of my most recent endeavor. I inoculated 12 jars of PESH in BRF substrate on 3/25/11 (using BRF tek like Roadkill's videos.) Got the spores from Freespores. After 3 days incubating at 76 degrees I noticed definite signs of growth in all 12 jars. After five days one jar had obvious contams (Trich) and was removed. The pics shown were taken today, after almost a week of incubation. This strain seems to colonize VERY rapidly. Can easily see why it is popular.
Anyhow, the only half-pint jars my local Walmart had were the "quilted" style, so the photos didn't turn out real great. I have since purchased a dozen regular pint size jars (and pc'd and 'noc'ed them) at the local Ace Hardware. Also bought a handy little tub of Dam Rid that even has a little tray in it, like it was MADE to dry out mushrooms.
So, as promised, photos of my progress. Am quite excited at how rapidly this stuff is colonizing. I think perhaps my earlier comment about the pace of our hobby may have been a bit premature.

Nice! I had a similar experience with Walmart and Ace Hardware today... Walmart was out of quart jars so I ran a wild goose chase all throughout town looking for mason jars.. finally stopped at Ace, and they had a huge selection of jars, even half gallon ones. And right next to the jars was Damp-Rid... it's like they want me to grow mushrooms!
Anyway, glad to see you've got some jars going! Sorry to hear about the ones full of Sporestores's stuff. How are you planning on fruiting the cakes once they're done?

I plan on just doing the standard Dunk and Roll tek. Fruiting straight from the cake in a shotgun style setup. Already have the tubs. Am also going to try a casing tek as well, with my pints. Am quite a ways away from that though. Still have a long wait ahead of me.

No, am just doing the BRF tek for right now. Plan on busting out a few batches of BRF first, get the hang of doing this again before I delve into grains. Had some luck a while back with Pennington birdseed, thinking about doing a batch of seed sometime in near future. You have any particular strain that favors seed more than any other? Just curious.
