The Aguirre Springs recreation area, in the Organ Mountains just north of el paso and the mexican border, is no longer safe. It seems the drug cartels are running the mules through these desolate mountains, that are on mostly on a military reservation. There are no roads, just dirt trails. Fucking bullshit cocksucking, dick-licking fucking asshole mother fucker politicians and DEA and their obscene drug laws.

My sister said, the DEA just raided a bunch of mexicans that had moved into a house next to them, apparently it was a drop house. And my sister lives in a nice neighborhood. Fuck, guess it's time to start cockin' up the guns....

yes, it was one of my favorite getaway places when I was going to New mexico state u. Now, I am worried about hiking on the other side of the tularosa basin, though the border is much farther away....and there is a lot more desert to cross before you get into the sacramento mountains. The organ mountains, the just come off the franklin mountains in el paso, its a straight line of higher and higher mountains from the mexican border north almost to albuquerque.

That does suck man. I wouldn't stop going though. Just means you have to add a decent assault rifle to your hiking/camping equipment. Although a shoot out with armed drug mules doesn't sound like my idea of a relaxing time.
I know how you feel though, every year someone stumble upon large cartel grows in the Wenatchee National forest. Sooner or later sombody's gonna get shot.

those mountains are awesome, ive yet to trip in rocky and jagged mountains.
but for now, ill settle for the appalachians. i like the giant rounded forested mountains here, theyre awesome. in some places its like gazing over a giant green blanket draped over a bed.

Well, when I want forested mountains I go to the other side of the basin...
I don't think these are overrun. A lot harder to access from the south, and more extreme terrain.

damn, youve got both types. im rather envious, actually. mountains are the best.
the weather around them is terrible though. at least here it is. im either trapped in the clouds (literally) or its extremely windy. but theres the occasional non-windy + sunny + warm day.

Figure the sacramento mountains of south central NM, average about 80F high and 55F low in the summer, and 40f and 0~10f low in the winter. The last picture I posted is at about 9,000ft altitude, so it gets cold even in summer, at night. I've seen it snow in June and August, but never in July.
