The government actually spends a high amount per child for public education. And most of the school's with the most money are still the worst in the nation ironically.
If the government even just let the parents of students decide which school the per child money went on a per child basis, then I think a lot of the problems with the public school system would resolve themselves. That is letting free market do what it does best and create a more efficient and productive industry out of the school, while at the same time making sure each kid gets the same "amounts." The only true variable is the quality of specific schools and the parents ability to determine which schools are the best for their kids.

Look smokingtheherb it seems like your friends family were being a bunch of pansies and just ran off. From what you said they didnt experience anything being done to them in particular and were just scared because of what people said. Chavez allows for a free media in Venezuela. Ive read a book on it and seen a umber of documentaries on it and read lots of stuff online.
This idea he is like HItler is just ridiculous. He is nothing like Hitler. He isnt persecuting anyone. Your friends family seems like a joke to me and if it really makes them seem seem sketchy just to run off like that.

And I can't give you a specific reason why privatized education will fuck over the poor, but above paragraph is an example of how they always manage to find a way in this country.
Why should we create unfeasible "business plans" for our government to make sure everyone receives equal things? Why is this inherently good?
Not only are your ideas a subjective preference, but they are completely unfeasible. Show me examples of countries that do what you propose without drowning themselves with debt.
Show me an example of a country that DOESN'T do what I propose without drowning in debt? I'm sorry, but debt is the norm for the developed world right now, and it has nothing to do with the welfare state. Until this state of affairs changes, the debt argument is a paper tiger.
My ideas are not a subjective preference. They have been shown in multiple instances to drastically raise quality of life and social equality in countries that have adopted them. I'm concerned with your own quality of life, too: rates of depression, obesity, infant mortality, and prison population are all demonstrably higher in countries which are more socially stratified, and that is what you preserve by limiting high-quality health care to the people who can pay for it out of pocket.
Now are you going to ask why you should care about our rates of depression, obesity, infant mortality, and the prison population?

The problem with arguing politics for me is that I can't objectively say what system is best. In the end it is only "best" in the subjective meaning I prescribe to it.
Personally, I think we should only run budgets that don't produce debt because they are unsustainable. If the United States wasn't involved militarily with the rest of the world and didn't have programs to give people free health care/welfare we could easily meet this goal.

lines said: I'm a big fan of Hugo Chavez but I am a libertarian politically. I don't get why I feel this way. I understand why I am libertarian. I don't trust the government. AN example that illustrates why I don't trust the government is that recently an 11 year old girl was gang raped by 18 men in Texas. After this happened the authorities put her in a foster home. The gang rape had nothing to do with the parents though. She was even an A student.
And so basically I want the government to have as little power as possible. So that's why I am a libertarian. But on the other hand I don't understand why I am such a huge fan of Hugo Chavez when he says he is a socialist. Because generally socialism increases the power of the government. I even recently about a Viva Chavez T-shirt.
As far as my opinion of USA policy towards socialist countries I just think the USA government should not try to interfere with those countries and that the USA should respect their right to self-determination. So I disagree with any sort of imperialism.
There is such a thing as Libertarian Socialism.
