questions on bulk growing with corn (nothing's happening, need help!)

so someone, not me, is trying to use corn to bulk grow via pasteurization.
she soaked the corn in half water/half coffee for around 24 hours, then boiled the mix, then strained it, then loaded the corn into mason jars and pressure-cooked them effectively. then the jars were inoculated with a mazatapec mexican cubensis.
its been exactly two weeks and one day and nothing is happening in the jars, they just smell strange, but not like mycelium at all. what did my friend do wrong? she could really use some help.

sounds like bacteria problem if u dont see anything but smell something.
first i hear nothing good about using corn... use rye or wbs... (rye imo)
next you dont pasteurize grain for jars, you sterilize them in your pressure cooker
also, what is your inoculation method? do u use a glove box? do flame sterilize the needle? do you shoot through a sponge with alcohol on it? what kind of jards do you use? what do you use for lids/injection ports?

Corn is a poor choice. Use rye.

corn is fine, and is not your problem...
how long did you strain it for, and how long did you boil it?
corn has a semi weird smell to begin with after being PC'd...is there any moisture on the inside of your jars?
to me i'd say it was probably a bunk spore syringe..

I agree with this.
I use corn, but prefer WBS of wheat. $6.50 for 50 pounds of corn goes far!
I soak for a long time, then PC the corn. I did not like the results from the simmer.
Sounds like a bad syringe or possibly a problem with sterile technique.

If you want to easily prep corn
Pressure cook your corn for 1 hour at 15PSI
Then take out rinse and strain then let dry I use a hairdryer to speed this up until there is no visible moisture on the outside of the kernels.
Then load your jars and Pressure cook for 1 more hour at 15 PSI
Viola easy Popcorn
Sounds to me like your jars might have had to much moisture in them. Same happened to 2 of my jars

so, the general consensus seems to be that not me should start over, but that corn is viable for this project?
i think i have a bit too much moisture in the jars...there's a couple mm pooling at the bottom of them.
does gypsum do anything antibacteria-wise???

Everytime after I've PC'd popcorn there was always a Lil moisture pooling up at the bottom, I always fix it by rolling the jars or by lightly shaking them. Popcorn works great and colonizes really quick
