Belgian Foreign Minister
    #1421581 - 04/01/03 04:36 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

He pointed out how the US government keeps changing its reasons on why it is attacking Iraq, and said the real reason was to reassert power in the aftermath of 9/11, and make an example of what we are capable of.

He did, eh?

Can you post a link?

What about all the money to be made too? I'm sure 6000 missles cost a lot! Plus the mark up for profit. Who's going to get the re-building contracts? Haliburton subsiduaries?

Yeah, the Belgian foreign minister... quite a hypocrit.

He's very smart about the real reasons for war: he said on TV that if Saddam was really dangerous, they wouldn't attack him, which makes sense, and also that the US are going in there for oil and strategic reasons, as well as what you said in your post.
But when it comes to act on it, he's nowhere to be found. He recently insisted that the Belgian government let all American transports of weapons and war machinery pass through Belgium, by train, boat or air, without moving a finger to prevent it, which makes the government accomplice to a war they call illegal themselves.

But then, they've probably been bullied into acceptance behind the screens by the American administration... nevertheless, it's incoherent and hypocritical.

It seems that the bilateral agreement on which those transports were based doesn't even apply anymore, it was NATO and Cold War-based. It was secret at first, but it was leaked recently. So even the transports are illegal... but so are most things in this world.

Haliburton won't be competing for post war contracts, somthing about conflict of interest has kept them from bidding.
