are wet fruits still good to consume if cured?
    #14214829 - 03/31/11 01:20 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

so this morning i harvested bunch of mushrooms with wet cups, kind of slimy looking and i wonder if i should eat them or not. they aren't all rotten or anything just visibly wet, finger slides when touched..

also i would like to know the source to this problem, my first couple of flushes didn't have that.

did that happen because i sprayed onto mushtooms accidentally or did it happen because i've increased the air flow on the humidifier?

any experience with slimy mushrooms is greatly appreciated!

Probably just wet. As long as nothing slimy or disocolored comes off when touched or wiped with finger.

well the cups are slimy, these aren't just water droplets, obviously something isn't good with the cups, i harvested couple of those last time and cured them, when dry they look alright and my question is if someone eats slimy ones? are they fine? will i die?

its called desperate but the stem looks fine.
i would throw it out since mushrooms should be plentiful or feed it to a bird :awetrippie:

when water sits on a mushroom for long periods of time it becomes slimy, you can rinse it off, and it'll be fine it wont hurt you..

I would just boil it into a tea...

I think people fret way too much over microbes and such.  Did you know that 30% of your shit by weight is alive?

I love that factoid...

Anyway, I bet if you made a tea with it, you will be fine.

finally someone makes sense, thank you. and would you say this is happening because the humidity levels inside chamber are too high? what would be the primary cause for the caps to get slimy like that?

not because the levels are too high, but not enough FAE, when you mist you fan directly after, to cause evaporation, which will make your sub pin, as well dry off the extra water on your mushrooms.

not enough fae, to much standing water (because of lack of FAE)

correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember reading that in RR notes...

sorry if I lied lol

sorry but what is FAE? and also since my FCs are hooked to ultrasonic humidifier, wouldn't fanning diminish the purpose of having maintaining high humidity? why let the humidity escape if we need lots of it? or am i missing something here? i don't fully understand the evaporation concept.. please elaborate.

FAE = fresh air exchange

you want high humidity + FAE, which leads to evaporation from the substrate. you can't have too much FAE so long as your humidity stays above 95% to get pins. after pins form, you can drop humidity a little bit, but FAE remains very important
