interesting... so i wonder now if that meas i should prolong the ON duraiton of my humidifier and minimize the mist output? so there would be more regular air coming through? or would you suggest i simply make more holes in the FC?
I need to prevent my new mushrooms from becoming slimy again

I'm not sure... it could be a combination of those things. it's just about finding that balance of moisture and FAE. do whatever gets you there. start with small increments in whatever direction you think is best and add/subtract more as necessary.

I would fan more as others have stated. I have had some mildly slimy mushrooms with some of my grows and it was most often caused by over misting.
Maybe try misting less and fanning more. I tend to overdo the misting. You want that moisture to evaporate off the substrate.

thank you guys, now i see the point of balancing things out, it's not just all about the moisture, very interesting indeed
i think i might have to hook up an air pump into the existing humidity tubing, so once the humid air went in then another timer would kick start the second "regular air" inflow, it's an idea anyways, let you know how it goes. fanning by hand is out of question, i'm simply not there to do it...

air pump is easy but don't forget to watch it so it doesn't dry out.

I used a combo of a ultrasonic and a large computer fan a few years ago in a monotub. It worked nicely. The ultra sonic would come on alone for about 1 minute, then the fan would turn on. The ultrasonic would turn off, and the fan would run alone for about 1 minute. Mist and fan.

I would not eat that mushroom...
I am still sure that cakes CAN become infected with bacteria at all stages of life. Do anyone know if this is true?
That mushroom looks infected with something...

that's quite an idea, and how often would it work like that 1 min on/off ? every hour?
my humidifier is going for 10mins every 60 minutes, and having a few holes in the tub i was assuming that would enough of venting, but i guess the air doesn't vent itself through the holes, some action is needed
that's great insight you guys, now i know why caps get slimy

I think I ran mine for 15 minutes every 4 hours.
If you are really concerned about that mushroom, just boil it in a tea. That will kill any bacteria. Just keep in mind that although the bacteria may be dead its toxins, if they are even there, may remain.
I wouldn't pitch that mushroom.
I have read that humans can easily eat rotten, moldy foods without getting sick. Just keep in mind that our species has been doing this for millions of years. I have eaten moldy bread before without issue and mold is more of a concern than bacteria anyway.
