music to me isnt a "thing" in my life... it is more a necessity for me to function... no matter where i go or what i do music is inevitably going to be part of it, so i dont bother counting it as something i like

The journey is a tedious one, but the rewards are fucking great. I've gotten to better known myself through my music and its a wonderful (and obvious) creative outlet.

You can do it man. Good luck.

My hammock is the coolest piece of camping gear I ever bought. I can take it with me backpacking, to the festivals, my back yard, I even bought an extra for my room. Ive been sleeping full time in a hammock for about 9 months now, and not a single back problem.

That's awesome... I've told people before they could probably sleep in their hammock at home and probably get better sleep then their bed and they look at me like I'm crazy. But it's probably true.. they are really good for your back. Relieves pressure and doesn't hit any pressure points as weight is distributed evenly. I've never tried stringing it up in my room but that would be pretty awesome.

HuHen - Hennessy makes some nice monster-sized hammocks for monsters

I need to get a new tent for car camping with the GF.. I think I'm just going to get this one cause it's cheap(ish) and has good reviews - http://www.rei.com/product/779020

I had 2 hammocks in my room in college that were kept up out of the way with shock cord.

Hammocks are great to sleep in if you know how... most people lie in them length-wise, which is guaranteed to give you a sore back.

I think you paid way too much...but then again I get all gear shit used, at surplus stores or flea markets...nothing has failed me yet

if that hammock is like most you will have to weather proof it somewhat...

hennessy's are pretty weatherproof... better than a tent if you pitch them right. the major thing to be concerned about is cold.

You don't want to tie them off to anything that isn't super reinforced.. just laying in those thing can exert hundreds of pounds of pressure to the sides.

can two people sleep in a hennessy hammock comfortably?

im thinking of getting one for the summer.. fuckin hot here.

EDIT:

and is there a vertical pole type thing i could attach to the hitch on my jeep? like i could just back up to a tree and use that as my second anchor point for the hammock.. i can move the jeep.. trees arent always that close together.

the only thing that comes up when i search "hitch pole" is stuff like this:

check out the hennessy catalog - http://hennessyhammock.com/catalogue.html

The SAFARI DELUXE A-SYM and SURVIVOR CAMO UNIVERSAL are both pretty massive and rated to 350 lbs, so 2 normal sized people can sleep in it.

I have heard of people using the hitches on their jeeps/RVs/humvees/etc to set up hammocks

Not sure how you would accomplish that on a jeep.. but I assume you could try anchoring it to the hitch if it's high enough off the ground or somewhere on the body especially if you have a heavy duty loop or clip or something to attach to.

Although I rarely/never find nowhere to hang my hammock... if there's trees I find two to hang it between. The ropes are pretty damn long too so it's not that hard, I've tied up between trees hardly 8' apart (about as long as the hammock itself) to almost ~20' or so apart. But it would be nice to have that option so you'd only ever have to find one major anchor point.

i was thinking of something like one of those bike racks you add onto your hitch.

just have something strong enough to hold up the hammock and back it up to any tree or whatever you want.

if its too hot inside the house in the summer and i want to sleep outside i would kinda need something like that (assuming it exists at all).

then again, i could probably just tie it to my rollbar...

Found this:
http://www.tothewoods.net/HammockCampingSuspension.html

Quote:

...Safely... Hammocks can put hundreds of pounds of force on each support. It isn't simply your weight divided by two...it's a trigonometry function where the cord or webbing is the hypoteneus of a triangle. Using the angle of the support to true horizontal, the force on the support is: h = (.5 x user weight) / sin(support angle). This also brings a few requirements:

The suspension must be strong enough. Be very careful using cord or webbing that doesn't list a working load or breaking strength. The lowest acceptable range is generally 700 lbs, and some people will not use less than 1000lbs breaking strength. Do not use 550 cord (parachute cord). I've broken 550 cord twice using it on a hammock, and I cut it directly off a parachute so I know it's the real thing.
The correct knots/lashings must be used. Knots can significantly reduce the strength of cord and webbing. Some knots reduce the strength more than others, and certain knots are designed specifically for webbing. Additionally, some knots will bind when they're weighted and you'll have to cut the support to get the hammock down. So pick non-binding knots or lashings when you choose your system.
The tree must be strong enough. Trees 6" in diameter are usually strong enough to support a hammocker. Make sure the tree is alive and there are no widow-makers nearby. Some trail shelters are capable of supporting a hammocker...others are not. People have torn door frames out of their homes, pulled their walls out of square and ripped garage door supports from the ceiling by hanging their hammocks from them. Learn from their mistakes.

We are talking HUNDREDS of pounds of force exerted on each anchor.. so it needs to be really strong. Not sure if a bike rack mounted to the back would hold up... but not really sure how most of those are mounted either. I'm sure the rollbar would probably work..
