Brand New to Mushroom Hunting - Lots of Species to ID (request)

Hi,
Before I start I should just say that you're all going to yell at me because I don't have a spore print for even one of these species. The reason is that I didn't pick any of them yet.
I am, like many of you, on the hunt for magic mushrooms growing wild in my area. I live in Marin county (San Francisco bay area) so I thought I'd begin by looking around the redwood forest that I live in. I encountered many species, but as I said in the title, I'm entirely new to this activity and I wanted to post these photos here to get clarification. However, with all of the forest, cow pastures, and other areas nearby, I do not doubt that I can find magic mushrooms growing SOMEWHERE in Marin. I really don't want to eat something that I'm not 100% is edible, though, as I've heard horror stories and I've even known people who have died from eating poisonous wild mushrooms that they thought were edible.
Here's what I found (there may be some cross-overs in these species but are labeled as separate species. Just disregard that.):
Species #1:

Species #2:
I found these growing all over the underbelly of some tree roots. They sort of smell bad...

Species #3:

Species #4:
*this might be the same as #1, I'm not sure.

Species #5:
These also might be the same as #1.

Species #6:

Species #7:

Species #8:

Species #9:

Species #10:

Species #11:
 Species #12:

 Species #13:
I found a lot of these.

Species #14:

Species #15:

Species #16:

Species #17:

Species #18 (the bigger one)
This one was very big!

Thank you so much for the help!

It makes it really hard without more information. At the least you should try to get shots of the underside, stem base, etc. The more information you can give, the better the IDs will be.
Here are a few guesses: 1. Mycena sp. 2. Coprinellus micaceus 3. ? 4. Mycena sp. 5. Mycena haematopus 6. ? 7. Entoloma sp. 8. Psathyrella sp. 9. ? 10. ? 11. ? 12. Laccaria sp. 13. Coprinopsis sp. 14. ? 15. Hygrocybe sp. 16. ? 17. Gymnopus sp. 18. ?

I really shouldn't try to ID mushrooms with my limited knowledge while also drinking beers, glad I prefaced my post with "noob guesses"

Maybe it should also be added that none of your finds are actives.

Best thing to do is find out what typically grows around your location..learn about habitats, color, shape etc. that way you atleast know what you are looking for..search the site for wild in my area and it will pull up a link to a good starter page.
Nice diversity in species though!

Thanks everyone! Theyre all very pretty at the least, and it was a fun exploration.
Are there any field guides and books that you'd recommend having for magic mushroom hunting? What about websites?

@River Man - The Bay Area Psilocybe season is winding down. There are still some Psilocybe Cyanescens and Ps. Ovoids out there but there will be very hard to find without some first hand knowledge of where they grow.
Check the Official Bay Area Fall/Winter Thread. Find posts from December and read the entire thing going forward to March. This is how I got started. This is my first season hunting for actives and I had a great season. Use this site, mycotopia, and mushroom observer, plus wiki and you will will be able to figure out how to hunt Psilocybes. But unfortunately, you will have to wait until the next season to be really able to find any.
But there are some non-Psilocybes Actives out there that you may be able to find such as Pan. Subbs or Gyms. Pan Subbs seem be the best option.

I believe that #15 might be Phaeocollybia sp., not Hygrocybe sp.. Other than that... what TimmiT said!

Thanks! Could either of the Pluteus possibly be active?
I found some more mushrooms today.
Species #1:
This first lot I found growing on woodchips in a playground in San Francisco. I'm getting a spore print for it right now. They look rather dead, though, so will I not be able to get a spore print for them? They look the most like the active mushrooms I've seen in these threads and are rather tough and thick, unlike the very fragile mushrooms I encountered the first time.

Species #2:
I also found these growing on woodchips, though by tennis courts in Marin.

Species #3:
This one seemed to have been run over by a car or partly eaten by an animal but it was huge. Probably about 10 to 12 inches wide.

Species #4:
These seemed to be newly "born." They were growing in dirt and woodchips. Their stems were the purest white.

Thanks again, and I'll get the spore print colors of the first two species soon.

Riverman, shoot me a private message. I live near you and just started on my quest, and I went about it the same way you did. I'll try and pass on a lot of what I've learned from the people on this board so they dont have to burden themselves.

No. The active ones are much smaller.
1) Pholiota 2) Leratimyces percevalii 3) maybe Agrocybe or Agaricus 4) Stropharia ambigua
