Insomnia.
    #14211987 - 03/30/11 09:01 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

So, about a year ago I had terrible insomnia. I'd stay up till about 5-6am, wake up at like 10, and just not be able to get any amount of decent sleep.
however, since risperidol, I've been taking it at like 930pm and falling asleep by 10-1030.

but..

I started taking some in the mornings, and fighting the sleep ( had to start taking some in the morning, hallucinations were getting bothersome ) and I've been fighting the sleep in the morning.

Now, I fear that by doing this, it's bringing my insomnia back. I took my risperdol at 8, and I'm still WIDE awake.

God I hope I don't develop insomnia so severe again.

I mean, I don't have a job, so it's not like it matters, but damn.. I value my sleep.

I haven't gotten any rest for the past 2.5 years.  It started with not sleeping at all, maybe 3-4 hours a night.  Now I sleep, but wake up tired; I feel your pain.

--------------------
Did he dream about dragons? Did he dream about deer? Did he whisper  he names of friends who were near?
What songs did they play, and how far away? Why did he whisper, why did she scream?
What does the sound of a screen door mean?
Who talks on the hill? Who goes to the cellar, can you feel the chill? Where does the river, when will the wind?
How far are the mountains? Where do they end? Why would the church?
Did the service begin? Tell me who died, and tell me who cried.
Help me hide in the skin of a deer, my zippered-up bag in the mouth of a stag so swiftly I go through rows of does,
it flows, it flows, it flows, it flows all over the hill where the green grass grows.

Life is difficult when you can't do the simplest necessary thing. Part of it must be the anxiety of the requirement to conform to every,ne's schedule of waking up with the sun, that bullshit. Probably is best to just forget the pills and go do your own thing. Screw it.

I've had problems with insomnia most of my life. Finally got a script for Ambien 10mg, but except for the first 2 days they barely help. I take 10mg and finally by 4-6am I end up taking 1 or 2 more.

Shit sucks. Laying awake at night, desperately trying to sleep because you have to work in a few hours. Just adds more stress and keeps you awake longer.

That is tough. I had a bout with insomnia too. I took Klonopin for 1 month because it was anxiety induced insomnia. I can finally sleep alright again.

before Klonopin I used store bought unisom. I also used to take them and stay awake. I used pop two unisom while I was playing call of duty. I would wake up to people screaming in my turtle beach headphones "What are you doing you asshole~!!!" while 20 zombies are swarming my character. lol

Eventually it started sucking though. I would stay up with them and then try to go to bed and I would get insane restless leg syndrome. That sucks too.

no appetite from no drugs? What were you on, weed?

I suffer from insomnia too, for me it's because I can't stop thinking. Meditation may help me there. But for now at night my thoughts pour out. It's like during the day I have to do shit, perform actions, and don't have time for thinking (its absurd though everybody thinks all day, it's just I don't consciously think during the day near as much as at night) The closer to sleeping, the more thinking, until in bed trying to sleep, and thinking about everything. Including going to sleep.

Only time I can get to sleep fast is drugs. Seems like any drugs, not just downers. I guess because in general, you dont think on drugs. (Except psychedelics, and those are the only drugs I cant sleep on! But I can sleep after though)

Too bad about the riperdone taking. Fuck that, if I wanted to not think, that's all I need. What a zombifying drug. I guess if you have hallucinations its worth it but damn, besides all the side effects, even its actual effects are terrible for me.

Life without drugs lacks substance(s).

the most important thing is to be in the moment and relax, if you know how to do this on command going to sleep won't be a problem

i've suggested meditation to you before and i know you said it seemed to cause more problems than it solved, but sometimes things have to get worse before they get better, and i have absolute trust in meditation as an ultimately good thing.  And since meditating before going to sleep, i've never had any problems sleeping where i used to stay up all night cause of my anxiety.

Meditation for me is a complete disaster. I've even had people try to guide me through it, but man my head is like a fuckin minefield.

Melatonin may work for some people, but not for all. I've tried all sorts of dosages and nothing did any good.

Hell, I'm even having trouble with the Ambien my doc gave me.

That really sucks.  I'm not sure what else you could try.  But you can't trip if you're taking risperdal.  It's also been known to cause permanent damage if taken long term.  Be careful with that stuff.  Have you tried Ambien?

Ah yeah, ambien makes me sleep-take-more-ambien.  Definitely not for everyone.  I need to take one and have someone hold onto the rest of them or I'd wake up 6 days later with an empty bottle.
