wbs, remove sunflower seeds?
    #14207005 - 03/29/11 11:32 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

After looking at many threads using wbs I've noticed that barely anyone removes the sunflower seeds from their wbs when soaking, is that ok? I can't remember the reasoning behind removing the seeds...if there is one..

People used to think they contributed to contams. Personally I dump out any floaters regardless of what they are, and 90% of them happen to be sunflower seeds.

Leaving them in is ok though. They supply lignin which myc likes to eat (along with the other 50 goodies in mixed grain). If you're PC'ing properly you don't have anything to worry about.

Completely agree. Probably harmless, but I remove all floaters and crud.

I third that, y'all. :irdumbtard:

I've actually seen a grow where the spawn was 100% sunflower seeds. Worked quite well. :super: I'm not gonna track down the link, though. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find it.

I also leave them in.  They've never caused me any issues.

I sift them out, specially in large spawn bags which take a little more energy to sterilize thoroughly.

When I have under-sterilized bags, it's been the sunflower seeds that like to turn green first.

I like the really cheap bird seed that has very little sunflower and lots of cracked corn.

Ahem, that tek belongs to somebody else, a member named doc34.
I do wbs like RR does rye in his video. And as stated, I remove all floaters.
