Paradox * 1
    #14210914 - 03/30/11 05:49 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

You will never achieve spiritual enlightenment.
The you that you think of as you is not you.
The you that thinks of you as you is not you.
There is no you, so who wishes to become enlightened?

    Who is not enlightened?
    Who will become enlightened?
    Who will be enlightened?

Enlightenment is your destiny β€” more certain than sunrise.
You cannot fail to achieve enlightenment.
    Were you told otherwise?
Irresistible forces compel you. The universe insists.
lt is not within your power to fail.

There is no path to enlightenment:
It lies in all directions at all times.
On the journey to enlightenment, you create and
destroy your own path with every step.

No one can follow another`s path.
No one can step off the path.
    No one can lead another.
    No one can turn back.
    No one can stop.

Enlightenment is closer than your skin,
more immediate than your next breath,
    and forever beyond your reach.

lt need not be sought because it cannot be found.
It cannot be found because it cannot be lost.
It cannot be lost because it is
not other than that which seeks.

The paradox is that there is no paradox.
Is that not the damnedest thing?

    β€” Jed McKenna β€”

I think he has some things to learn, but he's making millions, so who am I to say.

He says "No one can lead another."

Then what's the point in his books?

He means everything is just a finger pointing at the moon. The moon being that which cannot be simpler.

I don't know why he's pointing, could be to get money, could be because he feels like it. The point is that he is pointing.

What is he pointing at grapefruit?

I'm not trying to be argumentative, even though it may sound that way, I'm just trying to understand your perspective.

He is negating everything he's saying. It's the only thing one can do to "describe" "it". The difference between zen and the buddha is that zen thinks you just need to get "right view" down and then the rest falls into place. "Right view" in zen can be defined as the recognition of that which cannot be simpler through negation.

My interest is not to knock off what others have said (that is too easy) but to knock off what I am saying. More precisely, I am trying to stop what you are making out of what I am saying. This is why my talking sounds contradictory to others. I am forced by the nature of your listening to always negate the first statement with another statement. Then the second statement is negated by a third and so on. My aim is not some comfy dialectical thesis but the total negation of everything that can be expressed.

Yeah. That's really the point. Except that which cannot be simpler is a better way of saying it than nothing because if you say nothing the brain makes it into nothing.

Because he didn't attain it, it attained him . . .

Enlightenment is like a moth to a flame. It consumes "you" , you never own it.

We are all enlightened already, most of us just don't know it.

A wise man once said to me, "We cannot see a change outside of ourselves if we are unwilling to change the inner being. Enlightenment is not a knowledge or a power; it is being content in every moment, no matter how playful or challenging. For it is all an illusion of the mind".

Point of View and Perspective really plays a part. This is why many teachings were only given to some at the end, so that the point of view would be the same, otherwise it could be greatly misinterpreted, as I feel has happened with some of the great teachers of the past.

"We as humans on this Earth collectively chose to relieve the symptoms of the problems; rather than simply alleviating the roots of the illness, we cover up all signs that point us to it. For this very reason, our distortion increases as we aim our focus towards  a world that is not rid of disease or confusion, rather one that crutches it into an illusion." - Anonymous
