My puppy
    #14210416 - 03/30/11 04:20 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

My puppy is teething, and where one of his little front teeth is it looks like he has starting growing a new tooth but the old one hasn't fallen out!  He has a double tooth going on...what's up with that?

Anyone seen that happen before? Am I supposed to do something about it? It looks uncomfortable.

The little bugger will be just fine. It will push the old tooth out when its ready.

Give the dog something hard to chew on. Like a rawhide or something. That should help work it out.

Are they baby teeth an adult teeth in the same spots? It looks really weird.  What kind of dog do you have?

Yeah he has several bones to chew on, I've also been giving him frozen washcloths to chew since I heard thats supposed to help with teething pains.

i would pull it or have my Vet pull it. it may inhibit the new tooth or make it grow crooked, have you noticed how straight a dogs teeth are? nearly perfect- that helps them keep things from getting caught in their teeth causing, cavities, infections, sickness, etc. the Vet told me that. and it may ease the pain of teething.

no, they're baby teeth, 2 of her canines never came out, the adult ones grew in right next to them, biscuit is an Australian Shepherd mix, it doesnt cause her any problems

too damn smart, it's almost like she can read your mind

we bought a harness for her because dogs arent supposed to be abble to get
out of them, she found a way to cut it, got her a training collar, little
spikes inside, reduced the size to be snug on her neck, it took about 2 weeks
but she's capable of getting it off now in just a couple of minutes, there's
no slack in it... I gave up on trying to put a collar of any kind on her

My dog is kinda smart and kinda dumb.  He knows a lot of tricks for his age, but he does some really stupid things sometimes.

The other day I was out looking for morels and he walked out on this log hanging over the creek, it was balanced over another log so that about half of it was on the ground and half of it was hanging over the water.  Of course he goes all the way to the end so the log starts tipping over an the whole thing was about to go into the water.  I caught the log before it went in but my puppy slipped off the end and fell about 8 feet into the water.  He came out like WTF...it was pretty funny once I knew he was ok .

I think he'll outgrow most of the dumbness, but he's a lab mix and I heard labs stay in the puppy stage until they're about 2 so it might take a while.

She's still cool, though . . and loves pizza . . . .  And Pris, I tried that same collar on my mutt  'cause she pulled so much on the leash ... didn't do shit. Stubborn ass Chow. Thank God she's older than me (in dog years ) these days . . . :peace:

Its fairly normal.  Our pup still has two of her baby teeth along side her two adult teeth.  It doesnt seem to be effecting her bite...  but if they stay in much longer we are gonna get them taken out.  You can wiggle them a bit, and give the pup hard things to chew to help coerce them out.

baby teeth certainly doesnt affect biscuit's bite, trust me, my kids jump on
me and she has to get in on the action, she all but shreds my arms, I'll grab
the kids and she's all over me, they grab me and she attacks me, if I grab
the goat, she attacks the goat but plays much more gently with it
