now here it is in the press, this shit's been going on for at least 10 years, I had some cops telling me about it and how effective it was, I've made it a point to drive through them every time I see the signs because I know the scam
anyway, the article is pretty well written, worth the read

Oh, if I knew I was clean, I'd totally do it.
The one time I saw the signs I almost panicked and turned off, but I didn't. I only had a pound of mushrooms with me. And enough weed for a week-long trip.

lol... I only do it to hassle the cops, I always ride clean, I used to work in the middle of nowhere and have to drive back at 2am past the checkpoint exit, had friends and family that lived on the exit so if I ever wanted to use the excuse it was there, typically they asked why I was getting off that exit and the answers ranged from 'exercising my right to free travel' to 'that's not your concern'

Glad they don't pull that bullshit around my area. Of course if they did I would be screwing with them too.
Still it is pretty funny how they set it up.

first time I saw the signs for one was on I85 heading back to atlanta, I kept going in the interstate and saw nothing, talked to the cops about it the next day and they were telling me all about it, after that I was going out in the day time and scoring weed and shit where people tossed it out the window

I hate this article. Cops are not smart. 22 people arrested for weed... score. Fuckin bullshit.
And who is this news vulture standing there watching tens of people getting fooled, fucked, and detained? Sharpening his writing style and nifty descriptive terms on the wet rocks that are these people's misfortune, instead of, after several hours, seeing enough of it and driving a half mile down the road to warn people.

Around here they aren't allowed to do DUI/Drug check points. Or at least they aren't allowed to call them that. They call them safety or seat belt checks, which is basically the same thing. They verify seat belts are on, registration is correct, license is correct, proof of insurance and that gives them plenty of time to determine if you are intoxicated or if there's anything illegal in the car.
I've only been through one, never on an interstate. Too many vehicles to deal with I always thought. It was a road that exited off of I-95 near Colonial Heights in VA. I was stressing because I had just bought my underage friend a few cases of beer for a party he was having. The car was full of 12pks, cases and 40's.
I was of age. Cop check my license, registration and proof of insurance, and inspection and told me I was good to go. Funny thing is, we were going to the local porn shop to buy whippits too.
But while I was sitting in line, there were 2 cars pulled over to the side with people handcuffed on the trunk and cops pulling bags of weed/ powder (coke probably) and a loaded concealed handgun from under the seat.
Those guys were FUCKED.
-------------------- Same thing happened to me when I played Neil Armstrong in Moonshot. They found me in an alley in Burbank trying to re-enter the earth's atmosphere in an old refrigerator box.

I've never even HEARD of them doing that around here. Sometimes having a state constantly laying off police and fireman has its benefits. Until the house catches on fire.
But basically they can have you pull into this "checkpoint", and search your entire vehicle is what I am understanding, right?
Doesn't seem right.
Wonder when the police squads are going to start going door to door for safety checks.
