It's probably not the wax ring if he is getting water that isn't from condensation. The wax ring is there to prevent stench and water does not sit around it unless the whole line is backed up. I'm thinking he may have a crack in the ceramic bowl.

That's not a bad point. If you're not certain that it's caused by the ring, make sure before you rip the whole thing apart. You could also have a leak that's caused merely by the connections between the tank and the base, or on older models, there may be gaskets that got corroded in the bottom of the tank.

If it leaks when you fulsh it then consider changing the wax ring. I fix hundreads of toilets for work. Ok how hard, if the flange is not broke nd 9 out of 10 times for me its not I would say 15 munutes for a beginner.
Things you will need, 1. wax ring with horn 2. new set of toilet bolts 3. probably a new supply line get a metal flexable braded one easyest for beginners
Tools 1 plyers - to remove bolts and tighten new ones and for supply line 2. puddy knife or paint stick to remove old wax 3 turkey baster to remove water from toilet bowl so it dooes not come out of the boal when you tilt the toilet. 4 hack saw to cut bolts so caps woll fit, cut after tightening 5 rag.
Possiable huge problems 1. the flange is cracked. This is what holds the bolts to the pipe 2/ water can not be shut off completly before fixing toilet. Let me know if it cant i have a few easy work arounds

could also be a bad seal at the tank that's leaking down, it's easy to check with a dye, first a little tidybowl or something in the toilet to see if it's a crack in the bowl or trap, if that doesnt yeild results then add it to the tank, where ever it's coming from he should see the blue dye
