I just came across an article on a newly discovered gecko in National Geographic. Apparently it's latin name is Cnemaspis psychedelica. It is apparently 20 million years old.
Click the linke below to read the Nation Geographic article and to see why this brilliant colored gecko has been named psychedelica.

This thread is number five on google search for Cnemaspis psychedelica. I thought you should know. Lets make it academic or something.

That's such an odd looking gecko. It doesn't have the face of a gecko, it almost looks more like an Agama species. It's got some long funky toes too... I wonder if it has the sticky pads that most geckos do or just claws like the desert dwellers? And why aren't there more pictures?! So many questions!
But it is awesome that scientists are still finding new terrestrial species of animals. You'd think that at this point the scientific community would be aware of pretty much every species on land, but I guess there really are some places that are so remote that people still have never been there to survey the flora and fauna.
I really hope the political/crime situation in the Congo Jungle gets better some time soon, that's one of the least explored places in the world. I wanna go on a new species hunting expedition there, but I don't want to get kidnapped or killed.

Thats so kickass!

he sees throught the 'slit', the yellow and red most likely obsorb/reflect certain colors that make it easier for him to see his prey or his preditor or maybe its just to freak them out like it does us
