Drying For Poor People

I do not have a desiccant. I do not have a food dehydrator. I do not have a space heater. Also, I do not have an oven. Besides the advice to get a damn oven..
How can I dry mushrooms in under 3 days to prevent spoiling without any of the previously mentioned tools.

Do you have a fan? If so, you should point the fan to your shrooms.

Take a piece of fishing line thread it through the stems of the mushrooms, making a mushie necklace of sorts, find a way to hang your mushie necklace in front of the fan and let them bad boys dry.

Depends how much you have to dry... I used to dry mine in a folded paper towel on top of a stereo receiver, alarm clock... that was just for a small amount... from cakes... dried nice...
for larger amounts... i got a food dehydrator for like $25 NEW...
Good luck!

Only other option would be to lay them out to air dry. But that sucks.

Place them in a warm spot, thickly wrapped in napkins or paper towels and apply new napkins or paper towels often, by first removing the old (now damp) ones. If they are covered well you could probably place them in a sunny location, though a tv, computer or other electrical appliance would at least provide some added heat to speed evaporation. Good luck. Also, you should consider selling a couple and buying a dehydrator.

you have a computer. that means you have a fan at the back of it.
why not leave your comp on and try using your computer fan to dry them out. ive never tried it but im just thinking that since it shoots a nice stream of warm dry air it might acually work well.
lay them on top of a piece of tissue or paper towel

I know this sounds like a horrible idea but has anyone ever tried microwave like 10-15 seconds at a time might do the job?

that would just boil the water inside the shrooms, and cook it. it wouldn't dry out i dont think.
try it with one, but i think high heat will make the mushroom much less potent. but i could be completely wrong

the microwave would not dry them out and they would likely be digusting after that.
Do you have a furnace room?

Just yesterday I drilled a shitload of holes in the bottom of a plastic bucket laying around the house...

And cut a wire mesh window screen into pieces to make layers that fit nicely inside...

Now I just need bungee cords to attach to a fan.
Set mushrooms on bottom of bucket, set a layer of wire mesh, repeat until full. Set bucket onto a fan and bungee cord it into place.

Interesting. I guess our ancestors used the sun and wind.
My favorite way is to slice the larger fruits in halves or quarters and fan them from underneath in a wire mesh sieve. They are pretty dry in 24hrs with a toss or two. Then they go in a sealed container with a load of desiccant for a day or two. Cracker dry, they go in a screw lid jar with a sachet of new desiccant and are kept in the fridge.
I wish I could get some of those oxygen absorbers.
