Substituting Common Items Thread
    #14208356 - 03/30/11 08:55 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Just wanted to make a post to help fellow newbies around here.  If you cannot find a particular item to work with, oftentimes, it can be subbed.

Calcium sulfate = Chalk (nothing fancy, plain-white)
Hydrated Lime = Pickling Lime, crushed Oyster-shells, egg-shells [credit Luger0815]
Gypsum = Crushed and diluted drywall [credit cyantific]
Isopropyl alcohol = Lysol ~ 50/50 bleach water mix [credit cyantific]
Petri dish = 1/4 Pint Wide Mouth Jars [credit todlow]
Synthetic Filter Disks = Tyvek, Polyfill [credit todlow]
Perlite = Clay granulate, Clay pebbles [credit Luger0815]
Agar Pourer = Alcohol Bottle with gas exchange hole drilled in lid & sealed [credit todlow]
Isopropyl alcohol = Methylated spirits

Anyone else care to add some simple swaps?

[18:25] <-> thats cause ur neighbor is letting a cat do it
[18:26] < > cats bring something to the table, actually
[18:26] < > cat milk is a great addition to a casing, she says

Re-Compiled the thread, thus far.  Thanks for the tips.  I know it'll save someone some time to see condensed, quick-tips like these.

Most of it is useful....
