pump water from creek to tank...

We have tank water (can not afford well). We catch some water off of our house roof and some off our shed roof. We pump this water from the tank into the house for household use using a shallow well pump.
Heres my question though: We also have a seasonal creek in the valley we live in. During times of plenty when the creek is running I would like to pump water from the creek up about 300ft to storage tanks (or a pond) using our shallow well pump. Possible? How would I go about doing this? I have an idea but some help would be cool. Not sure how many foot of lift the pump is rated at.... maybe thats all it depends on.
A Ram Pump might also prove useful but I'm not sure it will work in our situation.
Thanks!

It pretty much all comes down to the power of the pump.

300ft up? you sure about that? you have to be sure of the vertical displacement since that is what will take up most of the power. now i don't know anything about wells, but if you are in fact referring to a 300' vertical displacement, that just doesn't seem very 'shallow.' you might need a bigger pump...
another thing is what do you plan to do with this water? does it need to be under pressure to be delivered to the various taps in your house, or are you just filling a tank with it? how much pressure? or how fast do you need this tank filled? what is the pump rated to in terms of flow rate, power out, any other manufacturer spec?
better yet... what is the pump make/model?
