, I am used to just saying 40x around my lab... And yes, it has oil immersion
Is it a 40x (plan)apochromat?

Great microscopy pics Hags. I'm just chiming in. No access to a microscope currently. Thanks for posting

mellowparty: its a normal microscope objective, not photo lens... think thats what you were asking...?
Bad news, ran the spores in the fluorescent scope. No autofluorescence at all, went from wavelengths 400-700 (DAPI/FITC/TRITC/mCHERRY)
Super sad, not that it would have validated anything scientifically other than simple autofluorescence, but it would have looked damn cool!

Try the gill edges and other parts of the cap.

When you said that it has oil immersion were you referring to the 40x objective or to the microscope in general. A 40x obj. with immersion would have N.A. way above the standard 0.65 for achomats (at least the oldies ). But u were prolly talking about a different objective anyway
Do you think you could stain the spores with DAPI and/or calcaflour. That would be uber win to spot the spore nucleus shining in blue

Hm these are not mammalian, are they? Amphibian maybe?
I see a lot of diffraction artefacts.
Here are some basidiospores at 40x10 mag.
