I'm sure he did. He sucks now. But I thought he deserved to be recognized for his work in The Yardbirds and especially Cream, one the of the all time greatest acid rock bands.

oh negro please i know clapton's a god damn legend
i love dem yardbirds and some of creams stuff
random fact :
sunshine of your love was written about jimi hendrix when "hendrix killed clapton" after hendrix came on stage with cream and played a version of killing floor that made clapton put his guitar down and leave the stage. hendrix heard sunshine of your love and liked it so much he made it a regular part of his act, not realizing he was covering a song that was written about himself.
yeah clapton sucks ass now though
i also saw bb king last year, who totally sucks as well. he played 3 notes the whole time. and not just 3 notes throughout the note, no.. 3 notes. the whole night.
i gotta stop seeing these washed up scrubs

I read it in a book entitled Electric Gypsy (i think that's the name), written by Henry Shapiro.
This link sort of backs up my claim (not my original source): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunshine_of_Your_Love
"Development of the song began when Bruce and Clapton attended a Jimi Hendrix show at the Saville Theatre in London."
The book goes into more detail about how the song was actually about Hendrix.

Yeah baby. What's the second song you posted though. It doesn't work.
pfxtc: I don't know, dude. Read these lyrics. If these lyrics are about Jimi, then he and Eric had a much different relationship than we realize.
Quote:
It's getting near dawn When lights close their tired eyes I'll soon be with you, my love Give you my dawn surprise I'll be with you, darling, soon I'll be with you when the stars start falling
I've been waiting so long To be where I'm going In the sunshine of your love
I'm with you, my love The light's shinin' through on you Yes, I'm with you, my love It's the morning and just we two I'll stay with you, darling, now I'll stay with you 'til my seas are all dried up
I've been waiting so long To be where I'm going In the sunshine of your love
I'm with you, my love The light's shinin' through on you Yes, I'm with you, my love It's the morning and just we two I'll stay with you, darling, now I'll stay with you 'til my seas are all dried up
I've been waiting so long I've been waiting so long I've been waiting so long To be where I'm going In the sunshine of your love

Coincidentally, I just watched a Yardbirds documentary last night. I have no idea why Clapton left The Yardbirds because of "For Your Love". It's a great song and wasn't anymore "commercial" than Cream, in my opinion. And it's a great psychedelic song, which was what Cream was all about.
