Habitat: Location-A farm in Taranaki, New Zealand Found growing out of the underside of a dead fallen tree.
Gills: light brown/orange gills, attached.
Stem: Length: 5-14cm, diameter: 0.5-2.5cm, color: light brown/orange, solid, thick on outside but soft and fury toward inner area of stem. Stem feels bendy but tough.

Cheers, did a bit of browsing on the net and they look like Gymnopilus junonius, though im a noob so i could be wrong. Are there any poisonous look alikes? Was thinking of eating some to confirm whether they are active or not, but don't want to take any big risks.

Super nice finds man!!! Gyms are super mellow but in large doses REALLY relaxingly crazy try around 150 wet grams - of med small chubby pins - or dry out 15gr of chubby pins - they will prob rock your socks off Also remember that spot - looks like they are also full of bugs - so they shud also fruit ANOTHER time or many times a yr from the same spot for a WHILE Happy Hunting man! - tea is also the best way to down the bitter fungus
