I can now beleive DMT is involved with the dream state.
You've done a fair share of psychedelics haven't you? Well there you go. Enjoy the wild dreams and waking up half-tripping.

not this year actually its a bit of a drought where i am at the moment.
Never have experienced any after effects in my life either, I was sober when i fell asleep, and it only lasted a few seconds, In that time i was still under sleep paralysis.
you're saying you've woke up from a dream to intense vibrations and visuals before? lol.

No i'm not saying that. I've not done a mass of psychedelics however.
But there are several things which would actually explain your experience. Sleep paralysis (which seems like a fairly obvious self-describing condition but it's somewhat complicated), and also being half-awake. As well as a simple flashback.
I'm just saying i really, really doubt DMT affects your dreams or sleep at all.

yeah its all assumptions as of now, all we know is its a pretty prominent chemical in nature,
What we don't know is what exactly makes us dream. (other than it has to do with our sub conscious)
not saying this is fact 100% fact but i just found it on erowid. "DMT can be produced by enzymes in mammalian lung (11) and in rodent brain (12). DMT has been found in human urine, blood, and cerebrospinal fluid (9, 13). Although there are no conclusive quantitative studies measuring the abundance of endogenous DMT because of its rapid metabolism.

Whoa, whoa...
We needa step back a moment - Everyone who is making unfounded claims based on subjective interpretations... are doing EXACTLY.. and I repeat EXAAACCTTLLLYYY the same thing people of a theological tendency might do with their proofs of God and other such other-worldly things.
Hypothesis and idea is fine - but the fact (as it stands at this point in time) remains - We have NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE WHAT SO EVER to show that DMT produces dreams. In fact, we are able to monitor people's minds while they dream - does anyone know if anyone has conducted neuro-chemical analysis on a group of people to determine this once and for all?
It's interesting speculation guys, but, it's not fact.
And, one of the WORST POSSIBLE JUSTIFICATIONS FOR ANYTHING of this nature, is someone saying, "I reckon it's there.. I had this vision...".
Anecdotal - yes, completely subjective - yes, useful in objectively measuring chemicals in a brain... NOPE.
Brains do a lot of weird shit. A LOT. You need to measure chemicals, before making wild speculation and claiming truth because of what you "feel".

The body uses tryptamines for various functions, a good example being melatonin. Just because DMT is present in the human body doesn't necessarily mean is serves a vital function. It could just as easily be a metabolic waste product as anything else. There's really no reason to think that DMT has anything to do with dreaming, birth, death, or anything in particular, really.

I agree though like i said earlier, i made the distinction of saying "this is however completely unfounded". Don't pit me in with those people saying "I HAD VISIONS, IT'S TRUE". =P

Wild speculation inspires experiments. When a hypothesis is proven wrong through experimentation, the process is still a success.
It's so easy to sit back and say, 'Well, there's no proof, so....' but we've got to admit that many scientific discoveries would never have been made had it not been for keeping an open mind and embracing radical ideas, if only for a while.
Personally, I'm more interested in what active doses of non-endogenous DMT are doing to people rather than the dream theories etc. but I really think that hating on Strassman or anyone who dares to speculate ignores the fact that much of (if not all) science and art is built on the basis of bold and often wrong ideas which lead to experiments that prove what's really going on.
It's a necessary step, this speculation.

True, speculation is great.
Presenting speculation as a die hard fact is not.

I can now beleive DMT is involved with the dream state.
Hypnagogic hallucinations, maybe?

Is he wrong? He also references the McKenna joke I referenced in my last post.
Also I just want to add that after trying DMT after awaking from a really intense and complex dream I just have this intuition that it must be involved in the dreaming process too. I've also TRIPPED during dreams and done other drugs. I've woken up straight out of a dream and had minor visuals like letters on a poster in my room were swaying and breathing lightly like on acid/mushrooms.

Ahh i have had a 2 lucid dreams over my short life
One when I was about 15-16. i had a dream i was in my neighbors backyard, ironically was sitting on a mushroom (before i had ever tried them btw) and realized i was dreaming. I attempted to create an AK-47 to play with in my dream, and i created it in 2 pieces, one in each hand. I then just touched the 2 ends together, and blam, i had a working assault rifle. I fired of a few shots in the air laughing hysterically before my body woke me up.. It was awesome
Then very recently, a few days ago, I realized i was dreaming when I was ontop of a building in a dream. I said, "Well, Time to wake up" And jumped off the roof of this high rise building. I remember being scared just a bit so i didnt fall backwards off the building, i had to go feet first. Woke up before i hit the ground.
Amazing experiences. I have found that just as your getting really tired and heavy eyed to actually just think to yourself about having lucid dreams, and it worked for me.
Good luck!

Dude made it pretty clear he was just speculating in the book. It's wishful thinking that makes people say otherwise.

Yeah, strangle the guy who went through years of work to get the first DMT study in years approved and wrote an awesome book about it. He made it clear that it was just pure speculation.
My opinion is people do DMT and its so eyeopening and intense that they have to connect it to something. You cant just leave something like DMT in the pile with the rest of the drugs, even other psychedelics. It seems like theres gotta be a bigger thing to it. or maybe not
