hey guys just a quick question. does the source where you get your seeds directly relate to its potency? i got my seeds off of amazon.com but they get their seeds from some other company, the name is slipping me right now. Basically what im asking is: would seeds from a specialized cactus store yield more potent cacti than the seeds i have? I just want to make sure im not putting all this effort into growing some bunk seeds.

Well if you're looking for potency, then you are better off getting a cutting, because you will be sure of its potency, as it will be completely identical to the mother plant, and will retain every trait of the mother plant.
With seeds, every seed is different, and all will grow a genetically different plant. You could end up with some bunk as un-potent cacti, or maybe some potent ones. So its sort of a gamble. You dont really know. Well until years down the track.
So, you should get a cutting off a decent strain if you're after potency.

yeah and if you get a cutting, and give it adequate lateral root space, it might give you seeds, and you won't have to pay for them if they don't sprout

Only if you have two clones; they are not self-fertile.

Seeds are a real shot in the dark. Every "Trichocereus Pachanoi" seed I've bought has turned into a T. Cuzcoensis. I've only bought from the same person though. Moral to my story: Don't buy seeds. If you want seeds for some weird reason then grow a couple of genetically different plants from cuttings then make your own seeds.

if you looking to get high, go with trichocereus birdgesii clone. grow it then you can take cuttings and get as high as you like.
and they grow fast so there is no comprimise.

I concur with the above statements for the most part. Cuttings will give you a better chance of having a bitter cactus ; but environment still will play a crucial role.
But I do disagree a bit...it 100% does matter what seeds you get and where you get them. As mentioned above, if you get them from some schlep on eBay you may get the wrong seeds and the worst part is you wont know for a couple years (whats PayPal's dispute policy?) I have a great trusted vendor that you can get all your cuttings of the named clones and seeds of any cacti you want (USA Legal). I'd post the name but there not a sponsor so PM me and I'll give you the info.
Recommendations: T. Scopulicous T. Peruvianus T. Bridgesii T. Pachanoi
They have literally 2 pages of hybrid Trichocereus seeds to choose from as well.
PS: Stay away from the PC clones. Not very good for what your looking for.
