Zoloft

Has anyone here been on Zoloft or a similar SSRI?
The dr said it could take up to 2 weeks to work, but I read some reviews and it took as little as 4 days for some people.
I noticed today when I took it, about an hour later I was VERY happy.
I'm sure there are a lot of negative things to come from this though, but do any of you have any positive things that you enjoyed from SSRI's?
I'm really hoping this alleviates some of my depression/agitation.

It works very well for me. Of course, I had severe, long term depression, which is where it works the best. If you're just suffering from moderate periodic depression, it may not be for you.

Awesome thanks Good words about it make me happy and hopeful! I've had depression since I was like 11 ( now 19 ) the agitation is new though, but the dr said it might help that too. I guess the only way to know for certain if it will work for me is to just stay on it!
Glad it's working for you though!

me! me! me! me! me! I am kind of busy right now, but trust me that you should try psychedelics in a safe setting before going on zoloft, other SSRIs or any anti-psychotic.

Yeah felt like i was on a mini roll the first time i did it and it didnt make me more depressed or have suicidal thoughts like celexa did. Makes it harder to ejaculate but far from impossible. My moods more flat than I'd like it to be but I take it for panic disorder because my depression is weak to moderate (triggered by the panic disorder). soooo i guess for someone who takes it for depression only it would be pretty good.
And lol @ any hippies that treat psychedelics as a cure all for mental illness.

Doesn't reach full effect right away, took me 4 weeks to feel full effect. Getting a little high/euphoria first dose is pretty common. Should maybe take your own advice about the research.
"do psychedelics in the right set and settting research educate yourself" i agree with this however.

I took it for a couple of years. I gained about 50 pounds and it took me forever to come. I switched to good old prozac and lost some weight. I don't think it does anything for me now.

Can you sleep on it?
I was on it for a brief period but then was quickly switched off to some other stuff.

I'm really hoping this alleviates some of my depression/agitation.
Except for the side effects of ZERO libido, I loved every minute of it, it really helped me. After about 2 weeks, every day felt like the first day of summer vacation, and I noticed all the problems that previously would simply overwhelm me and keep me down in a vicious cycle were all surmountable and fixable.
It really helped me, but I got off because I wanted to want to have sex again.

Ssri's are shit.only use them if you are desperate. Take this from someone who is a psychology major/biochem minor. It is not something you want to take for everyday blues, it is highly overprescribed, the effectiveness is subject to debate, and the mentality of taking a pill to solve your problems is extremely destructive to the psyche.
But I wish you good luck friend. I've been down before.

Interesting. Sounds like they're similar to opiates. I believe opiates affect endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin -- not just endorphins.

Please try to find other ways to deal with this. I've suffered major depression before for about five years before and pulled myself out. It's not easy but it is possible without chemical assistance. You can do it!

I've been on several antidepressants and they didn't do a damn thing for me. The worst part is I still had to go through withdrawals when getting off of them.
Cymbalta had the worst withdrawal symptoms. Two solid months of brain zaps from being on the medication for four months. If you don't know what brain zaps are you don't wanna know. It feels like your head is getting an electric shock every time you raise of turn your head. Needless to say I'm done fucking around with antidepressants for good.

I took it for awhile and didn't notice any changes with it. I know somebody that got prescribed Cybalta and was lifted way out of depression. I think drugs like amphetamine to work best for depression because of all the motivation and energy it produces.
