Grain Spawn

What happens if the grain spawn starts giving out fuzzy mycelium in the bag itself, before transferring to the bulk or block? Is it ok to shake it?
And, after 3 days or so, one has to shake the Grain Spawn bag to distribute it and then later again. What if, one does not shake it? Since, it is in plastic bag, if hardened, one can still manipulate and break it.

As long as it's fuzzy white and doesn't smell, leave it be. It's probably fine. Grain spawn is supposed to colonize in the bag. Than you mix it with the bulk and it colonizes all over again.
I've never found any use in shaking unless its a really large jar and you're worried it might be on the dry side. Be kind to your myc! If you leave it alone, it will definitely colonize on its own provided you have the right conditions. If you're impatient, work on more spawn jars instead of screwing with the ones you already have. Having a rotation of spawn insures you never have to worry about a run taking a little longer than necessary. Patience is good.
There are a million theories either way. Some say damaging the myc makes it more potent or more voracious or it fruits better. Others believe leaving it in its natural state has to be best. Others turn their jars / bags upside down every night and back up in the morning. Others rotate them to get even light. Some incubate. Some cold shock. Some keep spawn completely in the dark. Some swear an extra tsp of moisture will insure contamination. Others will noc their jars whilst on the pot taking a dump.
My experience is it doesn't really make a difference either way (aside from the noccing mid-poo - never tired). It's best to put spawn on any random shelf and just fuggedabowdit (sp?).

Thank u so much for this kind words. For a novice like me and many others who use this wonderful website to get ideas, share ideas etc, its incredile.
To even know more, that of all the advices given by many different people who have tried and worked and dished out practical advices, and books written, at the end of the day, one has to experiment oneself, what works best for him or her.
I shook 2 of my Grain spawn, while the other 2, i just left it there to colonize on its own. Lets' see how it will react under the same given conditions.
Once again thanks, for this advice.
