how do you get rid of woodpeckers? i have a bird feeder and the woodpecker fucks with all the other birds and acts as if its his territory... should i kill the woodpecker? or would this only make the next biggest bird be the asshole out of everybody??? im kind of suprised the blue jay takes the wood peckers shit even when there two of them versus one of you!!
which brings me to my next question... how does woodpecker taste and how would you suggest cooking it?

My understanding is that woodpeckers are "protected" species. I know that Pileated ones are (think huge: big as a crow; Woody the Woodpecker, etc).
This works to get them to leave you alone: Get a rubber snake, fasten it to where he hangs out & likes to peck. Trees, your house eaves, etc.
Also: Try a plastic Owl decoy.
These "scary predators" just make the little pecker-wood leave your premises, which is easier than killing him, as well as they're legal.

non lethal deterrence can be fun, nerf offer a great line, while a bb gun tosses a tooth pick (chew one end, break the tip off the other), and maybe just chase it off a few times and it should leave, peckers are territorial and just take that feeder back, ,,info brought to you by my grandpa....
