Star Gazers!
    #14201642 - 03/29/11 02:53 AM (10 years, 9 months ago)

So I got a spore syringe of the apply named Star Gazer. jars colonized fairly fast within around 14 days, all the jars were contam free up to this point.
roughly 2 days after pinning.

then about 3 days later

so far a decent grow, 4 of the cakes are covered in Pins! and three more are now just starting to grow out as well!

the stipe on your mushrooms looks abnormally skinny.
and as far as i can tell from the less than perfect pics.

there is quite a bit of mycelium growing up the stipe as well.

also your fruiting chamber doesnt have any holes?

I Use a hepa filter system(air pump, hepa hose) with holes in the lid for exchange, i have been fanning about once every three hours, and misting along the sides to keep humidity up which has also been a little troubleing, stays around 85-90%, as being my first sucessful grow to this point, i would appreciate any opinions,or hints.

well im not sure which tek you are following.

but i spray my cakes directly with water.

RR sprays his shiitake blocks with a damn garden hose.

spray EVERYTHING with water to raise humidity AND replace lost moisture due to fruitbody development.

as for your fruiting chamber.

i'd just make a SGFC
heres some results i got using the SGFC.

very simple set and forget

mist to replace lost moisture.

might as well fan when you mist eh?

incredibly easy to get results like that.

it was just fully colonized rye spawned to coir/verm via damion5050's coir tek.

obviously not as much substrate as he used.

but as you can see you can be creative with the teks you see around here

Fiat Lux, let there be light!
They look like they dont have enough light.
Thin stems are also caused by lack of light.
If the stems are verry fuzzy up to the caps, i would agree that they dont have enough FAE.
But maybe they need more of both.

i'll disagree.
i'll try to look for a thread i saw a couple days ago.

but this dude had some great lookin caps.
good color, no mycelium, etc etc

but his stipes couldnt even support the caps. looked pretty funny tbh.

long story short he had a great lightsource but his fruiting chamber sucked

they get close to 12 hours near a window (not in direct light) that should be sufficent. as far as FAE i could see that as a problem.

try putting the tub directly in the light, because: sunlight going through your glass window and then again through your plastic tub is not at all "direct" sunlight.

you might see improved results by giving more light as well as the other changes you will be making.

as been said, FAE is the cause for thin, lanky stem's..poor light causes small caps..

do as said above and place in sunlight for few hours a day and you should see a great improvement, as well for the light use a 6500k CFL.

No, they're just a cube which he pulled a name out of his ass for marketing to noobs.  In fact, I believe he only has one strain and simply labels syringes with whatever name the customer orders.  He's also not the only one doing it.

Cubes are cubes, which is why new growers think they're getting something different when they order a new name and see different looking fruits. However, since every grow is different with cubes, they can pull off this scam.

I ordered my spores from the Netherlands and chose a print with the name Star Gazer, it cost me a Euro only and the place is called FSRE (FreeSporeRingEarth) and is supposedly run by a ring of growers:)

I dont know what sub-variety mine are but they sure make you Gaze for the Stars...hence the name..Star Gazer:P:P

still having a few problems the fruitbodies grow not much bigger than in the pics and now are blue-ing and seem to shrink or start wilting i added more holes and have been misting, can a sudden temperature fluctuation cause this? my heater dropped the temp about ten degrees over night and they seem to be doing poorly ps. have added more light. any ideas?

I doubt it's fluctuations. I've read a lot of posts by RR and many other of the passionate hobbyists that said in nature, it can sometimes fluctuate up to 20 degrees. They can handle it but they may go very slow. If they are very thin, I wonder if you have holes on all sides? Also, where are they? Near a window or on a shelf in a closet? I noticed by a window there is much more draft because of the difference in temp/pressure outside than in (even if it's close, the air for some reason pushes towards it) and that can cause dryness. I'm not sure thought just trying to throw guesses to help you out.

How much perlite did you put in there? My room by the way has the most fluctuations closest to the windows. It's nice for light but I don't know if it helps with the humidity or temperature.

Also, have they been exposed to direct sunlight at all? Also how often do you fan? I've seen some pics of people who have good humidity but small mushrooms because they didn't make sure the water evaporated and it led to a very moist soil/cake. I'm really not sure brother but these ideas may hopefully lead you to a conclusion (or just keep bumping your thread). I

bro just take a clear plastic tub.

drill 1/4" holes 2" apart on all six sides.

fill with 5" of damp perlite.

elevate so holes on bottom can breathe.

watch fruit body size and health increase dramatically.

though your current fruits are probably done growing.

@ ONEU I have around four inches of perlite I noticed at the bottom of the chamber when I switched to having holes drilled on the bottom there was a bunch of standing water,.today I moved it away from the window and into a closet I feel that the fluctuations shouldnt be two big of a deal now, luckily theres been alot of help from everyone and im hoping I can still pull a decent flush out of these ha ha trial and error

You keep making things worse.  A window may or may not be enough light.  You need bright light for best results.  Get rid of the LED light or use it during the daytime as a supplemental light.  Mushrooms require the dark period to form and grow properly, so never use 24/7 light.

Get rid of the aquarium pumps and drill holes in all six sides. Get the terrarium out of the closet. Place in a bright window with at least a few minutes of direct light each day.

I have holes in all six sides, and the led light is not the only light in the room im now using 6500k daylight simulation bulbs two which I use a 12-12 on,off period also the pumps are just a little extra FAE. I do spray the cakes and walls three times a day and the humidity is keeping a steady 90-95 % I picked off the first flush because im hoping the second flush in this new simulated habitat will be more sucessful. They are dunking as we speak, I think this setup will work a lot better . Thanks for your advice, I do really appreciate it.

I don't see any reason why I shouldn't put my stuff outside if I'm gonna use a sg. Wouldn't use one inside...
But I never tried it so can't say it wouldn't work

kinda looks like this unknown cube I just fruited:

But I'm starting to see that RR is right... unless you're cloning, every grow, every cake is different. I've even seen different types of cubes on the same cake even. I've seen different looking cubes grow on the same cake after the first flush!

I've only had 2 grows under my belt to notice that as I had a "b+" and a "cambodian" sitting next to eachother. both had the same looking fruits.

I can tell you though that the fruit pictured above stains a VERY deep dark blue! So I'm going to try to preserve the LC I have and make a few more generations. But even with LC... I've had 2nd Generation LC give me different fruits from 1st generation. so yup, cube is cube... except PE... I don't think I've heard that happening with PE, but you never know

Sorry to go off on a high rant, gotta get back to work! nice fruits OP! enjoY!!!! :bigjoint:

FYI: I stole all my pix off google! F+ PORN! Here is a shit-ton of porn by yours truly!

I have FINALLY written up a couple teks as to how SHP has done things in the past. DISCLAIMER: This is not for the newbie to mycology, and not going to work for everyone! This is simply what works for one person when other teks and methods have failed miserably!
~~~~~How SHP does their unconventional WBS Prep!! (NO DRY METHOD)~~~~
~~~~~SHP's highly disputed method of doing ALL their work outside of a flow hood or a Still air box!~~~~~
~~~~~Troubles harvesting the side and bottom pins in your mono? Learn how!! Dunking included ;-)~~~~~
