Is it brown, hard as wood, and made of coconut fibers?

I'm betting its more greenish beige and softer like styrofoam...aka Rockwool.

err.. quick google search says
"# The original soil block is a concentrated blend of 100% organic and biodegradable coir, peat and fiber specially formulated to retain water and reduce runoff
# Excellent for mined peat moss"

You could mix it 50/50 with verm and use it as a casing mix. But I wouldn't spawn to it.

Coco coir isn't for gardening, you were looking in the wrong place. It's for reptile bedding. Go check a Petsmart, they'll have Zoo Med brand or something similar.

You can get coco coir in garden stores it is used as a substrate for gardens and as a substitute for peat.  Its actually a lot cheaper and you get a lot more than if you bought small blocks of reptile bedding.

Sorry, I don't know what soil block is but I buy coir in big blocks like that. It is sold as a peat moss substitute.  Mine says 100% coir on it though.  Yours states that is is some sort of coir potting soil.  Dunno if that means it has other things in it or not?

I just bought 4 cf of peat for like $14.00 and am going to buy coir tomorrow & I don't think the coir is cheaper nor will the peat replace the coir, but idk. Please enlighten me. Will peat replace the coir.

Just a side note coconut coir is produced in an exponentially more sustainable manner than peat.  Peat comes from peat bogs in northern climates.  Peat bogs function as carbon sinks and wetlands, so they are ecologically important.  They are destroyed to produce peat for gardening and mushroom cultivation.

Coco coir is the husk of coconuts, and has few other uses other than for reptiles, gardening, and mushroom cultivation, etc.  If not for that it would just get tossed out and go unused.  It is essentially a waste product that we have found a way to use.

Just some knowledge, if ya care

I recentently seen a show on how peat was actually manufactured and they were digging up about 3 feet of ground and drying it in bricks and selling it. My 1st thought was, how do they replace that 3 feet? 2nd was is the earth getting smaller because of this. then I thought,,, It doesnt matter now that we have nuclier waste contam'n in the world from the last quake.

And the governments wants to tell us what we can put into our bodies!
