Probably back into colonization. How many days has it been?

I would give it another week.  That will let it finish colonizing and consolidate.

Of course, then there's the problem of eating vermiculite. On the bright side, it makes your poop and teeth glitter.  Just pretend it's christmas.

It could use a few more days sealed up. If you introduce a monotub that's not fully colonized to fruiting conditions (light, fanning and polyfill) you're asking for trouble.

I like using clear lids, press 'n seal, or something that lets me check progress on monos without breaking the seal. You want CO2 to build up during colonization to encourage the myc to stay in a vegetative state so it'll fully colonize the substrate. Once fresh air hits it, it starts shifting gears into fruiting mode.

Protip: don't always go by the calendar. Some myc finishes early, some finishes late. 10 days is a best case scenario for fast, healthy, strong mycelium. Spawn ratios, moisture capacity, temperature and other factors contribute to timing as well.

One last word. While it's not critical for your sub to be mathematically level on top, it helps. Don't be afraid to touch it while you're mixing sub and spawn in your mono. Wear some gloves, wipe them down with alcohol and reach in. Sometimes I'll barely break up a spawn jar and do all the breaking up with my hands while I'm mixing it into coir. You can level the "frosting layer" of coir with your hands just fine.

Looks like you're off to a good start, keep at it. :naughty:
