I'm really sorry about that. You just need a really good lawyer and be supportive of your girlfriend. Good luck.
also realize if these are federal laws then they are trumped by state.. best to find your states laws on the subject..

if they didnt have a warrant you should be fine, but you DID open the door. never open the door unless you know its not the cops. i never open the door unless i see who it is. never open the door for cops. if they want in, theyll walk in like they did when you opened it. if they want to be in, they wont knock, theyll knock the door open and come in.
get a lawyer. they have payment plans, they work with you. DO NOT get a public defender. that and not getting a lawyer is the worst possible thing to do in this situation.

The real myth is the myth of sanity, of rationality: it's a disease that is eating away at the earth. All the poisons flow from our denial. We deny madness, we forget our crimes, we dismember the corpse, we imprison our children. We need poison to poison the poison, to remember the sacred nature of intoxication, the green body of the young god." ~ Dale Pendell

A lawyer for a felony would run you about $1200 in my state. But I'm sure its different in other states. And you gotta have them all paid off before they will come to court for you. But if you are in the process of paying off a lawyer, they will extend the case so you can pay off your legal counsel first.

Look for criminal defense attorney who deals with drug possession. You can easily get that dropped to possession and go through diversion/avoid jail and get it dropped after you complete probation. Unless you had thousands of dollars or have you in the act of selling the 20 hits or you told them you were- this is NOT automatic distribution.
Even 300 hits you could get away with possession because you buy and save up for yourself, and a good lawyer (not public) could argue that.
Your life isn't over. You'll get through this. Just don't fuck up probation and stay clean and you will be okay.
don't admit anything
Find a lawyer who you can pay for the court dates/case review. DO NOT PAY PER HOUR. This is the BIGGEST scam in the world. You can pre-pay lawyer for case and court dates/pleading guilty for drug diversion.
UP TO FIVE YEARS means you can get diversion. There is no minimum, and it's possession. Welcome to drug court (if you pay for private lawyer).
Also those are federal laws. NOTHING LIKE STATE LAWS. Not even close. That means absolutely nothing. He might as well posted something about rape laws. That doesn't apply.
I am pre-law major applying to law school and I have been through the court system and drug diversion system before and have seen MANY people do it as well.

don't let her get duped into going to a drug court
especially in GA and definitely not if you're in Glynn county
i just heard a story about their drug courts and a crazy judge named Amanda Williams:
Quote:
Ira reports from Glynn County Georgia on Superior Court Judge Amanda Williams and how she runs the drug courts in Glynn, Camden and Wayne counties. We hear the story of Lindsey Dills, who forges two checks on her parents' checking account when she's 17, one for $40 and one for $60, and ends up in drug court for five and a half years, including 14 months behind bars, and then she serves another five years after that—six months of it in Arrendale State Prison, the other four and a half on probation. The average drug court program in the U.S. lasts 15 months. But one main way that Judge Williams' drug court is different from most is how punitive it is. Such long jail sentences are contrary to the philosophy of drug court, as well as the guidelines of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. For violating drug court rules, Lindsey not only does jail terms of 51 days, 90 days and 104 days, Judge Williams sends her on what she calls an "indefinite sentence," where she did not specify when Lindsey would get out. (30 minutes)
http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/430/very-tough-love
they may threaten jail time and offer drug court as an alternative, but it probably isn't worth it
good luck

Wow, that sounds like a ridiculous judge. Why is she allowed to do that???
I hope my gf does not get anything like her court
The worst thing about this is, although I know I have been crying and depressed about all this, my gf feels 1000x worse
I am going to see a lawyer tomorrow, so I will let you all know about it. There are lots more small details I did not put in the post as they were not important to you guys, but I will be sure to tell the lawyer everything!

the affidavit for the warrant is important, it'll have the time it was applied for, if the warrant came after the entry then it may have been an illegal search and can be easily dismissed, the big factor being if you bought from an informant or an under cover cop
get a lawyer, tell the cops nothing at all other than your name, that goes for your girl too

for a prelaw student you give really horrible advice, you've already got them pleading guilty when the validity of the search is in question and for the record, some public defenders do their job, most will if you stay in contact with them and tell them you want to plead not guilty

I've see the courtroon a few times, I have a friend that sold LSD to an undercover cop, he was given a public defender that got the charges dropped, another friend that was busted with possession and DUI with MDMA, the same PD got his charges dropped as well
I too am in Ga, unfortunately I'm in the NW corner so the best help I can offer is via the board
at the arraignment your girl needs to plead not guilty and if you havent already hired a lawyer or cant afford one then request a PD, you may be able to get one before then, contact the courts, stay on the guy's butt about getting the charges dropped, if the cops saw you leaving a dealers house and that's their 'suspicion' then they didnt have probable cause and it was an illegal entry, if they'd had the warrant when they busted her then they'd have shown it to her and it would have specified the address and all
did they show you an arrest warrant or a search warrant at the jail, I'm suspecting it was arrest which they file for after the arrest in most case

2 of the thing you need to get a lawyer on ASAP is the warrant and the affidavit applying for the warrant, from there it'll be easy to tell whether the warrant can easily be suppressed, if the warrant can be then the case is pretty much history
