Greatest Trip Ever with my Sheltered Chinese Friend! 3
#14198427 - 03/28/11 03:26 PM (12 years, 10 months ago) |

So this weekend I drove up to visit some friends, and take my Chinese friend from HS on an epic shroom journey.
She grew up really sheltered by her overprotective Chinese parents (the only reason I was able to take her to prom in HS is cause her dad was out of town, and her mom is a little cooler). She just started smoking pot last semester and when I asked her if she had any thoughts on shrooms, and she said it was the only other drug she'd try. Then I was all "well, I grow shrooms, so we should make this happen." So we planned it out for this past weekend.
Originally my intention was to go to the park. I had really wanted to go to the Botanic Garden, but I figured the park would be a lot safer because the Botanic Garden is PACKED in March, and if someone is having a bad trip, being around a lot of people is the worst place you could be. Well, this weekend the weather started getting rainy/cruddy and at first I was all "crap," but then I was like... "wait, the botanic garden has a giant greenhouse, and it won't be crowded if its raining." So I arranged for my friend to drop us off and pick us up later.
So we pick her up, and I tell her we're going to the botanic garden. And she's all "No way! I will freak out." I was kind of worried about that myself, but I managed to convince her that it would be fine. She got all excited and nervous, and it was really fun to watch. So we had a light lunch there, and I put about 4 grams powdered in both of our orange juices. So we both downed it like pros, and went for a walk around the Japanese garden. At this point, the rain had turned to snow, and it was awesome because everything (cherries, forsythia, magnolia) was in bloom and it was snowing nice big flakes. There was a photographer there, and he took our picture a couple times, and snagged a cell-phone pic for me (with my our big shroom-eating smiles plastered on our faces).
So I notice it really start to kick in when we're around 3/4 of the way around. I stare at a branch on a cherry tree as it starts to wave and distort a little bit. She is all "whoah! are the colours supposed to be brighter?!" And I'm like "yep!" So we walk around a little more, start to get cold, and go to the visitor center. We both go to the bathroom, and she takes a while longer, and when she comes out I ask "did you get stuck in the mirror?" and she's like "YEAH! I *really* feel it now."
So at this point, we go into the giant rainforest/geodessic dome, which is amazing, because it's practically a blizzard outside. We hide our coats in some bushes, and walk around. It's amazing, like being in a real rainforest, with waterfalls, birds, and everything. For whatever reason, she is like crazy drawn to the colour yellow (I mean... apparently I am too), and like finds every yellow plant, and stares at them for minutes at a time. It was really funny to watch. I told her she was a saffron finch (one of the bright yellow birds that is supposed to live in the dome), and she really liked that and said if she became a stripper, she'd make that her stripper name. Her ass was amazing to look at on shrooms.
I also spent a good deal of time communing with the plants, and gathering inspiration for my landscape designs. We walked through the temperate house, and had a really funny conversation about Alice and Wonderland, and how Kalanchoe (a succulent plant) reminded her of Koreans. "Look at this plant! It's so Korean!" "What makes it Korean Alice?" "Cause it's so obnoxious!" "Racist." "No really! Everything about this plant is so Korean!"
So then we walked over to the orchid show, which happened to be going on this weekend as well. It was amazing, but really crowded. By this time, she was settled in enough not to freak out, and we even had a conversation with the nice black lady who was taking tickets to the show. The orchids were incredible (as always) and some of them were really fragrant. I told her we should sit down and people watch for a minute, which she was kind of sketched out by, but eventually found really interesting. She was all "I feel bad for them. They're looking, and taking pictures, but they're not *seeing* it." At this point in my mind I was like "YES! She gets it! This is what psychs are supposed to be about! I've opened your eyes little Alice."
After watching some people, we went back outside for another stroll through the Japanese garden. We found this cool little sanctuary area, and had a neat conversation about what our parents were like, and how we respect/were influenced by them, but also how flawed and human they are. It was interesting. I feel like she vented some feelings that she'd never expressed before. We continued to walk, and we both got in this state of "constant rapture" where everything was like "WOW!" It was especially strange because there were about 4 inches of snow on everything, so it all looked different than it had when we started out.
Then we went back into the Geodessic dome (it's so trippy walking out of a blizzard and into a rainforest) and walked around for a while longer. I was going to take her through the service paths and on top of the waterfall, but sadly we ran into a security guard who said the dome was closing for the night (it would've been really interesting to get locked in). Anyway, he escorted us to get our coats, and right as we were getting to the door, a Saffron Finch (the first live one we'd seen all day) landed in front of our path. My friend was all "EEEE! Look! The saffron finch!" Like... I feel like that was some cosmic something-or-other going on there. The guard unlocked the door, and we headed out to the Gift Shop.
I bought a shit ton of books ~$200 worth on landscape architecture and design, and she bought some seeds for a sensitive plant (Mimosa pudica, it closes when you touch it. There was one in the dome, and she really liked it). My friends picked us up, dropped her off at her apartment, and then we went for Chipotle and Ice Cream (also very strange on shrooms in the snow).
Later I invited her to come out drinking/barhopping with us for a friends birthday, and we both had a great time. We wound up at some weird asian party at some point, where I got to try Four Loko (the old one). We went back to my friends apartment, smoked up and watched Pineapple Express. She passed out on the couch, and then I got kind of sick and threw up in the bathroom a couple times. Then passed out.
Overall, it was an amazing amazing weekend. Her fb status today was "Snow on cherry blossoms in the botanical gardens..this is life" then later "Life is so beautiful." MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Summary: I had the best trip ever with a Chinese girl. I might be over my ex (who is a different girl).

Great story!
I don't understand the varying tolerance levels though.... 4 grams would put me in space, no way would I be able to be in public without getting arrested or put in the hospital.

Well, these had fully sporelated out, so they were probably somewhaqt less potent than unopened caps. And it seems to me that when you start out talking and have a lot of stimulation, it's easier to keep your cool throughout the entire trip.
Anyway, starting a larger batch of shrooms today.

I asked her to write her take on it. Here's what she said:
Man, did I enjoy the shrooms...it was really an eye-opener. I thought about everything, or at least wanted to, and I somehow had a fresh, more poignant perspective for my life. I guess I've been asking myself a lot of questions, and as I told you a lot of them were answered Saturday, among the cherry blossoms and red pagoda
I didn't see anything NEW, like a person or object that wasn't supposed to be there, but honestly I wouldn't have liked that..that was what the "Lie to Me" shrooms did and if that happened to me I would just have freaked the fuck out. My favorite were the colors, the moving patterns, the fact that I could almost feel all the textures. I'd really enjoy trying them again, and they are definitely better than getting high. Just got high yesterday, and not as enjoyable, just mind-numbing and freaky at times lol.
And since the experience Saturday, I've just been much more open to the world, which is why I've been exploring so much and just trying to appreciate things I never thought of before. Is that what you go through every time? It's a nice reboot on life

Nice report sounds like it was a perfect introductory into the wonderful world of pyschadelics for her! Seems like you were a good person to guide her there. Glad you both had a great time, I'm jealous I would love to trip at a botanical gardens! It's good to hear stories like these instead of "Had a bad trip and never doing mushrooms again" type of stories.

For sure righteous We went to the Amsterdam Botanical Gardens back in 2000 or 2002, not sure, but they had peyote cactus there, and there were neat mushrooms popping out from the soil of many of the plants in some of the grow rooms
