More than anything, i'm hoping this thread will help someone who is obviously struggling with depression, addiction and a general sense of hopelessness in their life come to see that a few strange souls on a random site about mushrooms give somewhat of a damn about her well being.

Well said. It's quite clear she has problems with drugs probably herself. And this forum is not the answer nor the place to be.

i think it's because she's been posting pretty much all day every day for a few months and has a really serious drug problem.

it's always good when you can take negative experiences and make them positive, and im glad that worked out for you.  however, it doesn't generally work out that way for most addicts.

I agree yoga, this is the stupidest argument.  Sorry to the people that do get scared straight but have you seen the recidivism rates for people who spend time in jail/prison.

If you went to jail and never went back because you changed some things about your life you are in a very small minority.

Jail is about the cruelest thing you could do to a serious addict.  Lock them in a box with nothing to think of but the fact that they can't get well.  95% of these people get high within an hour of release.  I know I did, even though I told everyone else I learned my lesson.  I just told them that to get out.  Drugs are powerful and eventually no matter how strong of a person you were they beat you down.

Thankfully that part of my life is over.

Putting addicts in jail makes no sense and helps almost no one.

Putting addicts in jail does make them sober up though, does it not? Like or or hate it, it does do that.......

Im not saying that they're not going to relapse as soon as they're released, but ......

Addicts do stupid shit too you know, some of which deserves them the opportunity to go to jail/prison...You cant blame everything on the drug.

Yeah addicts do stupid shit. Like getting addicted and continuing to feed their addiction. It's all about unhealthy mental patterns of self medication. They allow themselves to develope these patterns and allow themselves to keep reinforcing them. But jail is not going to put a stop to those thought patterns. IMO/IME, only the person suffering from those patterns can decide to pull themselves out of it. Jail is just like suspending those patterns for a finite amount of time. Which usually doesnt do shit. And is also why rehab usually doesnt do shit. Or AA. And on and on. Unless an addict truley WANTS help and hasnt just been coerced into saying they want help, or force to go wether they want help or not, rehab/jail/AA/NA isnt going to do shit.

also, hopefully ellen is fine. I have a feeling she is. maybe she just blacked out for a couple days or something.

Sober up?  What does that even mean?

Take a heavy opiate addict.  During withdrawal you feel completely insane for at least a week.  You are not sober, you are a mess.  Much more of a mess mentally that if you were high and much, much more desperate because you are so sick.

So the second or third day when you get OR'd and released you are in the middle of this hell and short of some extreme willpower you are gonna go get high immediately.

No sobering up involved.  Sobering up is sleeping off some alcohol.

I was more referring to B&E and other crimes like that......

Sobering up, spending a month in jail and losing the physical withdraw symptoms...
