pink oyster problems??
    #14196738 - 03/28/11 08:42 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I've got four different strains of oysters going right now. Syringes are from one of the sites sponsors. All of them are doing well, except the two jars of Pink Oyster that I started 3 weeks ago. The are thin, wispy, poorly colonized, and the mycelium is pinkish white. All the others are doing very well.
Is this a contam from a bad syringe?

Pink Oyster mycelium often has pinkish hues to it, and if grown on
a nutrient rich agar will be a vivid pink.

Is it like the thinnest mycelium ever? The blue and pearl started off really thin and then Bam! they thickened right up, these jars haven't gotten thick at all They look like they're two days old all over (real thin)even though they're into their 4th week

Depends on the strain I guess, the pink culture I have from Aloha
starts off fairly thin and thickens up after colonizing. I have a few
other cultures of different oysters and I can say that the pinks are
a little bit thinner in mycelium growth, but not much.
