Moonshine acceptability 1

I was watching the Discovery Channel show "American Treasures" the other week and the hosts of the show drank moonshine with the people they were interviewing. At the end of the segment, the people they were interviewing brought out some moonshine and poured everyone a taste and they all sipped on it. And the guy who narrated before and after that clip, talked about it as if they had a beer or something. He talked about it matter of factly and didn't talk about the incident with any sense of doing something naughty at all. But they were all in possession of an illegal substance and then ingested that illegal substance. Don't get me wrong. I like moonshine just fine. But I just found it strange that people are so comfortable with an illegal product. Like those hosts would never smoke pot on TV.
I just thought it was kinda weird.

Well the illegality of home-brew and distilling varies from state to state. But I gotta say I really moonshine, especially with some added fruit like strawberry!
It's been awhile though...you know it isn't to hard to make the stuff. More people should get back into the craft.

I know distilling liquor is illegal in the US but I'm pretty sure drinking it is not. They probably weren't doing anything wrong by sipping on that because they weren't the ones who actually distilled it.

Pretty sure White Lightening is the 'shine equivalent of Chronic in terms of being an overused name.
I've had some good nights though thanks to the elusive creature that is Moonshine.

I had two moonshines, a light and a dark, one from the mid 70's, and one from the early 80's, about five years ago during a going away party.
Shit burned my soul.

Making your own alcohol is legal in Canada (I believe) as long as you don't sell it. I think its more about the government getting their cut then anything else.

Well brewing beer and wine is perfectly legal in the US. I think it has more to do with how dangerous distilling is as far as the risk of explosion and traces of methanol being left in the product which can blind or kill.

Its legal to create distilled ethanol for "fuel" I believe not sure about consumption. And selling for consumption is definitely illegal.

You could be right, Fractal. You usually are. But I'd like to know for sure if mere possession of moonshine is illegal. I have a feeling that it is.

Possession of actual moonshine (untaxed liquor) is definitely illegal.
That being said, are you sure they weren't drinking whiskey that was called "moonshine" but produced and sold legally?

distilling is federal, there's no variance from state to state other than for licensed distilleries

Well of course they could have been drinking water for all I know. But they presented it as if they were drinking real moonshine, not some brand of legal liquor named Moonshine.

I had some stuff the guy called Moonjuice. It was green moonshine he made with mj in it. I'm not sure the process he used to get the pot into the shine, but I know he used home grown clippings.

One of my friends from high school is now a cop. And she openly admits to being in possession of peach moonshine. That's how acceptable it is. Cops don't even mind telling everyone that they do it.
