Hows the shroomery been? Ive ended up in florida. Im living in a tent, on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Kinda strange. We use water catchment and pump up water from an underground well, so theres sinks set up for doing dishes and showering in the woods...which is more like a jungle. There was 2 other people here, which included the girl of my dreams from france...but they left a few days ago, so its just me out here...bored out of my mind sometimes. Good days, bad days, sunburns and bug bites. My only companions are a dog, 2 cats and some chickens...I guess its better than nothing. I miss drinking and playing on the computer till the wee hours of the morning. Just a phone now. The change is good though. Well anyway...at least I still have the shroomery

Dude! That's the craziest shit I've ever heard.
Man... You gotta remember the Shroomery graemlins. I think about these things all the time!

Two cats and a dog ain't bad company... Tell me you've got music out there though.

With the way the site has been running lately it might bail on you too.
That sounds pretty awesome actually. Except for the loneliness.

I managed to throw some tunes on my phone right before I left. Some paul simon, pink floyd and jethro tull. It gets the job done. I overheard the farm lady talking about some british girl coming down. Not sure when, or if its set in stone. I sure hope so. I can hear all sorts of creatures around my tent at night. I feel like Im in jurrassic park. The farm is lined with a wall of thick forest/jungle I cant even see into. Im pretty sure Im being hunted...

How'd you end up there, if it's not too tedious of a story to tell by phone?

What an experience. I'm glad you can still check in and let us know how it's going, I for one have been following your adventure.
Maybe we should all send some tunes?

No crazy story. A few months in vegas got old fast. I want to travel and get out. Vegas is fun in small doses, not so much in the traveling sense. So I found this farm through wwoof. I help like 20 hours a week in exchange they let me live on the land and supply food. Mostly what we have on hand like chicken, eggs and vegetables. Theyll run snacks and things over every now and then too. Propane grills, rain water tanks and solar power. Not too shabby of a setup

That sounds nice, I'd probably go crazy by myself though Not that my current living situation is so far from different, I'm completely isolated as well. But I do have running water and wired electricity, so I can't complain.

Yeah I hope they get me some people out here soon. The days arent too bad. Taking naps in a hammock in the shade. Exploring the forest with a machette..gardening and all that. But the nights are long and silent. Gets kinda boring. I keep telling myself "if you cant be happy with nothing, you will never be happy." Once an item/drug/person that brings you happiness is gone, your happiness goes with it. Im not leaving until I am completely content with nothingness.

Kinda. The farm owner is a younger girl, early 30s. Its no money farm, its a small organic farm for local street markets, and shes out here every day workin up a sweat takin care of the place. I just help. Its a travelers farm. People come from all around the world to visit, meet new people and learn about gardening/self reliance. These kinds of farms are all over the world. Its an awesome experience

It's funny how modern society has a cultural and traveling novelty called "WWOOFing" - whereby young people take off and, like in the good 'ol days, pretend for awhile that they must fight to survive.
It's almost like historical tourism, which if you think about it compliments the eco-tourism quite nicely.

Im actually right next to a large cow field, sad though it hasnt rained in like 2 weeks. The forecast is looking good tomorrow though. Somebody here told me these cows eat a lot of oranges, and cubes wont grow on em. Anybody know anything about this? I guess we'll find out. Ill have to get some poo pH samples or something...

Yeah, Florida is like that. Get out before summer gets there because the heat and humidity can be miserable. I did this 10 year ago in Colorado. Lived in a tent for about a month until I found a job and apartment. It was some of the best days and nights of my life.

I was WWOOFing before it was called WWOOFing, and I didn't have a signal for my iPhone when I was doing it.
Kidding, I'm young and I love technology (and dank organic produce). Let's combine the two, bro! It'll be just like the Pacific Northwest. Kidding again, I'm old and jaded and hate youngsters and their exuberance - especially the peaceful ideology.
I once did the Peace Corps however in a poor, black neighborhood. Felt just like a study abroad!

Nah the main focus of wwoofing is based around organic gardening and travel. Many of the hosts actually have you stay in a spare bedroom or something similar. The primitive camping is just a consequence of the farm location. Its hardly a "survivalist" experience.

WWOOFing is legit. I did a bit of it in Ireland and Scotland a couple years back. Met some great folks, helped people who needed the help, learned some basic life skills and saw a bit of the world while i was at it.
help exchange (http://www.helpx.net/) is also a legit organization i volunteered with. more of a broader focus then just organic farming.
