My first fruit
    #14192811 - 03/27/11 03:11 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

My bags are almost fully colonized. I have a few questions because I want to try to do this correctly (with it being my first time and all).

First off, I'm planning on fruiting in a clear plastic container. I was going to put down 1/2 inch of moist perlite and put the birthed cakes on top of that. This is where the questions begin, when I birth the cakes from the bag should I go ahead and dunk them for 12 hours or does it not matter for the first flush? Also, can you get contams from dunking, if so how do I avoid these as much as possible? By the way I can't use a fridge for my dunking in between flushes, will this matter?

I can't drill holes in the container so I'm going to fan it out once a day and make sure the perlite stays moist. I heard that you should get the cakes wet and roll them in vermiculite, does that really help all that much? If I do use a verm layer will I go ahead and put it in fruiting conditions right away or do I need to let the outer layer colonize as well?

Hopefully all your information will help me get started on the right track, as for my mycelium it looks great so I'm hoping fruiting goes well.

Your going to have to drill hole in it, and also your gonna want to fan it a little more, say 3 times a day. Mist and fan thats the key.
Without ventilation holes co2 is gonna have to  much build up. Fanning once a day isn't enough to compensate.

Alright I guess I'll drill holes since it is necessary.
