What if you looked at it differently. What if christianity was still prevalent because the subjects of the roman empire lead happier and healthier lives which included kindness and forgiveness?
Your not the first one to talk about religion as a tool for controlling the masses. People know about this idea and still they believe. That means something.
I'm sorry for questioning your beliefs in the philosophical debate forum.
Read the fucking rules.

The one thing i know about Christian people is most of them are happy with life. Lately ive thought that an amount of dopamine may be being released when one thinks of a higher power of sorts.
The same sort of feeling when your in love or stable in a relationship for a long period of time.I think these feelings run parallel with religious thoughts especially when you really believe. Im not a religious person but i believe there are higher forces working around us.

I am angry because you do not understand the concept of debating, nor the rules of this forum. The closest thing to an argument you put forth was a self-admitted baseless postulation.
You also incredibly naive to thing the individual happiness and well-being of the population was what drove Constantine to decide as he did. It was nothing more than a tool to gain power.
Enlighten me as to how Christianity is any more valid than any other religion.

From my experience Christians aren't any more or less happy than anyone else, they're just more invested than anyone else in pretending they are happy.

I would probably identify with Christianity. I think the religious names are silly because I study Buddhism and advaita vedanta too. If I were to flat out say "I am a Christian" it wouldn't do any good, everyone will think of what they assume a Christian to be and project that onto this post. I don't go to church, I have no idea if there's a supernatural world, angels, demons, etc. I do pray and walk in love towards others.
The only reason I can really offer for why I believe what i believe is I tried everything else. I read Nietzsche for a while and was a pretty hardcore anti-theist for a couple years. I really enjoyed going on Christian forums and debating them or just explaining to them how dumb they were. When I was really honest with myself I found that I spent most my time obsessively spinning in thoughts and feelings of aversion. The more I pursued cravings the more unhappy I became. I felt like that Greek myth of the guy who pushed the boulder up the hill for all of eternity. Just constantly in striving, once one desire was satisfied the boulder rolled back down and a new one took its place.
So yeah, I don't think you'll ever find a
Premise 1. Premise 2. Premise 3.
sort of debate for why believe what Christ said.

Yeah, that despite the obvious controlling nature of the church these individuals are still such weak and scared sheep that they won't relinquish their adult safety blanket Jesus Christ. Heaven forbid they think for themselves.
Does the constitution of the United States mean nothing to you because it was created by someone else?
it's a document written by some guys with some good ideas and some bad ideas

Learn respect for one's faith. While you may disagree, none of the Christians here have done anything to cause you harm. I dislike Christianity too, but that still doesn't mean I ridicule these people out of nothing. The only time (imo) it is fine to ridicule anyone for their faith is if they are pressuring you into it, or simply will NOT leave the subject alone BUT ONLY AFTER you've politely told them you do not want to take part in it.
Edit: The reason being, is nobody here is correct. Yes, Buddhism may work well for a Buddhist, but Christianity works well for a Christian. Its up to YOU to figure it out for yourself. Sadly, some people do not think for themselves, but that is not the religion's fault, that is the person's.

One time I went to my friends pentecostal church with her and the preacher started yelling in tongues and a lot of other people jumped up and started yelling in tongues and there was this lady that kept trying to get me to get baptized while I was there.
It was pretty scary.

I'm ok with christians being christians and I respect that. The number one problem I have with the whole thing is politicians using their power to make laws based on christianity, "one nation under god" in the pledge of allegiance, "in god we trust" on money, etc. Are they respecting my faith, or lack thereof, by doing these things?
I suspect most of the people defending christianity did not grow up in the bible belt as an athiest, it is very difficult to be completely without bitterness towards them when your life is influenced at every turn by christian ideals.

My father and step-mother were both pentecostal. It is definitely a weird sight, but these people find their happiness and they were all genuinely nice people. I just wish they could have seen my views, but its just the same as I can't see theirs.
My mother and step-father are southern Baptist, and its the same for them for the most part, except they're maybe a bit more hypocritical (or maybe its just my mother ). I'm moved out and living on my own and don't speak to people like this anymore.
