my view on the whole situation is this: i dont get upset when other people have problems in their life that they cause because then i would always be upset.
i get upset when i have problems, or when someone has a problem which is beyond their control. she kind of dug herself into a hole here, and its her own fault. im not going to be sympathetic to someone who fucked themself over.
nobody made her get addicted to drugs. nobody made her overdose. nobody made her do whatever she did to end up in the hospital. its her problem, and its her fault, why should i feel bad for her?

You shouldn't- you should feel good she's alive.
Same as vandago. Brought it on himself, but it's still a bummer.

You guys realize it is possible to feel compassion without shouldering the burden of other peoples problems right?

What is our reaction when someone OD's on an RC and ends up in the hospital?
"Fucking idiot..."
What is our reaction when someone OD's on drugs with years of medical use?
"Poor _____"
Why is that so? Nonchalant use of drugs is not to be taken lightly. Doesn't matter to me if their RCs or not. And don't say that an OD on RC's is just "spoiling it for everyone else," because that shows that you don't truly care about the human life at stake.

compassion is something i reserve for people who have issues they didnt bring upon themself.
like if your brother gets hit by a car. ill feel for ya.
or if your aunt died of cancer, id feel for ya.
or if your dog got old and died, id feel for ya.
but if you abuse drugs to the point that you end up in the hospital, ill just laugh at your lack of common sense.
or if you kill yourself by jumping off a bridge.
or if you (like an idiot) stick your hand on a hot stove/pan.
or if you feel guilty for cheating on your boyfriend. (as in the thread last night)
i dont understand the whole concept of "ohhhh nooooo, you almost killed yourself the other night, wow im so sorry, thats terrible "
to use a charlie sheen quote out of context: "crying in the corner like oh my god ... shut up, shut up, stop, move foward"

What about "sorry you tried to kill yourself, glad you're feeling better"?

I'd feel compassion for that person depending on his or her circumstances, say the person who comitted suicide suffered major depression which led to that act -that I would deep worthy of compassion.

For some it obviously isnt? Why else would the state of things be the way they are. Sensitity is a lot tougher virtue if your too immature or selfish to benefit from it.

I think it's because of the level of dose needed to OD, and the parameters of the drug.
If someone wayyyy overshoots on a psychedelic phenethylamine, then it's kind of hard to understand why they couldn't just research and enjoy a good dose/trip.
If someone is abusing very addictive drugs that subdue their mind into not caring, it'svery much the nature of the beast.

Well, if they don't have any regard for their own life, I see no reason why I should have any regard for it as well. Even consuming as much benzodiazepines as Ellen does, one should still be able to realize that eventually it's going to lead to death. I'm still fairly unsympathetic, if Ellen could go get a suboxone script in the midst of a terrible heroin addiction, I'm sure she could go get some help for a benzo addiction. How many blackouts does it take to knock some sense into somebody?

Caine, people lead different lives and have their own reasons for doing things.
If you can't understand why Ellen behaves this way, then you should just pipe down and be grateful.

That said, I agree that Ellen should try to get help... it's a dangerous road she's walking down.

Sure thing, I just don't see why people started insulting each other ("run of the mill douchebags, etc.) over this whole deal, and I've only made like 4 posts in this thread anyways... This being the last of them, I can tell when I'm about to get flamed

Not to criticize, but that attitude is the general attitude of most people who dont think outside the box and only how things affect them personally when we in fact live in a communal society where each action in turn brings a reaction. But i get your point there is a fine line between being unlucky and deserving what fate throws at you. Whatever tho i dont argue on here much thats why my post counts so low.

Yeah, hope you didn't think i was talking to you. She me the details, it's not really a laughing matter.
I'm just saying, there's no need to make fun or post negative shit. It's about putting yourself in the other person's shoes. If you don't have anything positive or helpful to say then move along.

I've seen enough people who behave similarly to Ellen for it not to seriously disturb me anymore.
I don't feel like it takes any more energy than posting on here normally would to be supportive of a Shroomerite having a hard time. IME she will probably be more likely to change her ways if we impress upon her that people love her. It may help her realize that she has a duty not only to herself, but to the people who love her, to get better.
