I like how it feels, though--hard liquor is like a rush compared to beer.

But damn, you're like the hobos I used to chill with when I was homeless.

Headphones are weird. Ironically the higher end ones tend to all sound the same. I'd go with a used pair of high end ones on eBay or Craigslist. Often people don't use stuff that is really nice.

The reason high end ones tend to sound the same is that the ultimate goal of high end audio gear is to have a flat EQ response (no bass boost like skullcandy or.. :puke: dre beats) they're designed to deliver the music to your ears as unchanged, detailed, and clear as possible.

I'm interested in this question as well.  I'd like a fairly decent pair thats not too bulky and has a noise canceling quality. I have my buds that are good whilst im working, but something while im on an airplane with some good sound would be nice.  And over 50 seems like too much for that  *shrug*

audio technica, AD700. Cheap, comparable do HD555s, less audio bass/theater feeling but higher detail

if your budget is under 50$, i'd look at hippo in ears.  I'm convinced in ears are the best you can do under 100, then it goes to over ears, then it goes back to in ears (assuming no amp).

Not a bad choice...

are the best in the 100< price range that I've had the pleasure of listening through so far.

what, the hd650s?  You need an amp for those too .  I debated getting a pair but went with a pair of akg sextetts and am getting some custom IEMs made in the near future.  Some of us like our audio

edit: and the sextetts are known for being better than the hd650 if properly driven.  I'm listening to mine now and they sound fuckin spectacular

Worth every penny.

Unfortunately, they render you incapable of listening to ipod earbuds or laptop speakers ever again.

I'm really not the biggest fan of the hd280, they're not bad for 80 bucks, but they require a HUGE burn in time, the cable sucks, and they sound hollow.  Dampening them helps greatly and is easy to do fortunately, but i'm still not a huge fan.  I gave my girlfriend a pair that i recabled and dampened and she's happy with them, they're not bad when modified, but still don't sound... quite there

I set mine up on a white noise generator for like 48 hours and they were gravy :awesome:
What do you mean by dampening them?

48 hours?  My mom's pair didn't really burn in til like 300 hours of use.

Dampening is really quite simple.  Basically, the plastic that the cases are made of resonates... a lot.  Part of what gives it that hollow sound.  If you take the drivers out you'll be left with a hollow plastic casing, in the empty spot where the driver usually goes put some bluetac in there and smooth it out.  Be sure to use the same amount on each side and make sure it won't touch the driver and not to use too much.  Too much is just as bad as too little.  Put it back together, do a frequency sweep to make sure both sides are the same, and enjoy.  Costs like 2 bucks tops and greatly improves them.

it's pretty hard.  there are a few little wires you gotta make sure you don't pinch, but it's really kinda hard to.  It's just two screws and some bluetac, it's REALLY easy and shouldnt' take more than 10 minutes.  Only thing to be careful of is taking the pads off.  I recommend heating them up with a hair dryer slightly to make the rubber more pliable.  They're a bitch to get off and on

I need a new pair pair soon.

I'm in no way saying these are amazing, but they were alright. I use them at home when I'm doing random things. The next set will be a lot better.

But I guarentee you could find something better for $50 I use them with my beatpad and they work perfect for that.

They are overpriced, and indeed not that great, but they work fine for what I use them for.

They're on the way out though, so my next set will be substantially better
