Modified hole placement in SGFC

I finally get to start using it in a few days.
Because my tubs are not transparent, I cut out a hole in the lid and siliconed in a piece of plexi. I don't really want to drill the plexi. I can add holes around the outside of the plexi, but that will only provide about 1/3 the holes I need in the lid. I could double up the holes in the lid, but then I'd be worried about compromising the strength of the lid. Can I get away with adding more around the top of the sides, or do they really need to be on the top?

Any particular reason you don't ant to drill the plex? Just chuck it on a bit of wood and take your sweet time (very light pressure).

keeping the plexi on the lid. would it be better to use silicone and stick it on the top or tape it on the top?

If you're wanting it there permanently, silicone all the way. Slightly stronger, more hygenic, better seal and resistance to humidity... You get the picture.
If you go tape, duct-tape (or even better, gaffer-tape).

Don't try to fix what's permanently broken. Get clear tubs. Light is a major element in fruitbody formation and 80% of the available light will enter from the sides, not the top. A piece of plexiglass in the top of a terrarium is a piss poor way to introduce lighting, so quit while you're ahead and get a new tub. This will make your original question moot. RR
