Warn your Grandparents
    #14188703 - 03/26/11 07:50 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Got a call from my Dad today and he works with a guy who's Father was scammed by some con artists.  This guy is 82 years old and isn't in the best mental shape apparently...

Anyhow, the Grandpa got a call from Canada... said it was the Canadian police and his Grandson was in custody and needed bail money.

The con artists went as far as having the number on the caller I.D. say 'Holding' as in holding cell.

They say something like, "we cannot release any further information until you verify that the person is your relative, if you can, please indicate his name".

The grandpa told the con artist his grandson's name, "Jeff", then they had someone in the background in a muffled voice you could barely hear say "Grandpa, it's me Jeff, please help me".

The grandpa was then instructed to wire $6000 to him through western union.

The scam wouldn't work on a sharp minded person, but being old and not completely with it, the con-artists were able to prey on that and capitalize on it, from what I'm told the old guy was very emotionally torn up to think of his grandson in Canada in jail and without hesitation, he wired the money.

This is some fucked up shit so I'm sharing this information in hopes that you all will spread it around to those elderly folks whom you care about, in an effort to prevent other people from falling victim to this shit.

Cheers.

They were doing that here a couple of years ago. And everyone from michigan has spent the night in a Canadian jail at least once so a lot of people were getting scammed.
